Legitimate playoff system would help. Send all P5 division winners and group of 5 champions to a single elimination playoff and the parity would increase.

There are 3-5 teams playing a different game than everyone else...Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State are just different...when the stars align right LSU and maybe Georgia is allowed to play...everybody else is dead meat...

It's really all so boring, so predictable, and so bad...it's much like my industry, which is the music business...3% of the artists/bands make 97% of the money...3% of college teams stockpile 97% of the talent...everybody else just slops around and barely makes a living...

I don't see an end in sight...I could give an unending list on why this is, and another list on how to change it, but why? The right people are getting paid, and it's as simple as that...

Would I feel differently if I were a fan of the Big 3? Maybe, but I'm not...so by all means continue with the sport that has less intrigue than your local Sr ladies bowling league...the checks are still being cashed.

Cry me a river, bud. Clemson is relatively new to the blue blood class, which somewhat debunks your entire notion.

Exactly...I've noticed that most of the "comments" in this thread are from fans who are either a) living the high life right now, or b) thinks that their school has a chance to break through soon...

I fell in love with college football in the 90s, when LSU was horrible.

Programs rise and fall, that's part of the beauty of it.

I get what your overall point is but it's never been a parity driven sport.

There are some steps that probably should be taken to increase parity a bit more, but you're always going to see a handful of dominant programs (haves) and everyone else (the have nots)

I love CFB, but having the same teams compete for the title every year is not good for the sport.

Not really. Unless you had SEC/ACC/Big 10 matchup in the first round.

Been saying that for a few years now. The CFP ushered in the pareto distribution whereby fewer and fewer teams have more an more talent. Instead of embracing what made college football unique, the bowl system, everybody wanted a playoff and now you've got 4-6 teams that have a shot at the playoff and everyone else playing for a shot at a middling bowl.

I saw this stat earlier this year....UGA has 16 5-star players on their team this year. Auburn hasn't had 16 5-star kids cumulatively in 14 years.

It's fun to watch for nostalgia but thinking your team has any real shot at a championship is just fantasy anymore.

Or those who don't realize that instituting the playoff changed everything and it doesn't matter if your team "used to be" a powerhouse. Doesn't matter that Mich, Tenn, Tx, FSU, Florida, et. al. won titles in the past. They just arent going to compete for a championship anymore in a situation where there are only 4 spots in the playoff.

Exactly...the playoff changed everything...many of those schools listed as "used to be's" would have NEVER had a shot under the current system...

Kirk Herbstriet said a while back the playoff needed to expand to get more teams and different matchups.

I remember I hated the idea of MLB playoff expansion when it happened but it really increased the number of teams in the playoff chase in September and in my opinion has helped the game a lot.

CFB is kind of like MLB was then. A few teams with huge payrolls (insert your joke here) that are always getting in the playoffs. But with expansion you give smaller market teams the ability to get into the postseason.

I know some will worry about watering down the regular season and that is a good point, but we aren't going back to the old system. I think expanding the playoffs and giving more teams a chance will help the product long term.

You cant have it both ways. CFB had the greatest regular season of any sport, but the playoff is gonna kill that too.

I've just taken to enjoying the games on campus (when I go), tailgating, seeing old friends and classmates, and watching the game because I know we have no real shot at the CFP. I'd rather us expand and continue to play an SEC-only season. At least I get to see the traditional rivals.

I get the sentiment. I still think the 2000s were the best when you had teams from all over the country play at elite levels (USC, OSU, LSU, Texas, Bama in the late 2000s, OU).

You right. College football, like NASCAR, was a lot better decades ago when there was less money involved.

I thought 6 or 8 would work for a playoff.

All 5 P5 winners and 1 or 3 at large.

4 different SEC teams have played for the national championship in the past 7 years. Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, and LSU.
