I just initially assumed it was based on fandom, not some geek's version of CFB Risk.

Im going to spell it out because we're on the fourth page and people aren't getting this cool map.

Every county is given to the Division I school it is closest to.
Every college football game is a war. The winner takes the land.

Kentucky beat Southern Miss, so it takes the land that originally belonged to Southern Miss.

This week, Mississippi State has a chance to take a big piece of land from Louisiana Tech. If they win, they will own that land, but LSu can come in the next week and take it all from Mississippi State.

As the season progresses, less and less teams will own pieces of land. It will be cool to watch.

Those counties' closest Division I school is Kent State.

yeah I didn't click the link and was confused AF when I first looked the map, took about 3 seconds to figure out what was going on

Pretty obvious to me when Boise State was all over Southeast Alabama. I didn't read it either, but it didn't take long.
