it would be interesting to see if Elon could win a title giving a coach unlimited resources to truly see if coaching and culture matters over talent acquisition

I'm guessing we all know where this leads.

That experiment works, then someone else tries it with Jeff Bezos, and a few programs drop out because they can't afford it.

Eventually you're left with a small conglomeration of owners, coaches, and elite players competing throughout the country, partially subsidized by merchandising and broadcast rights.

We'll call it the National Football League, sponsored by Bud Light.

That’s too simplistic of an answer. There are millionaires all over from every university. It becomes a question of the big donors if the juice is worth the squeeze. I don’t know enough about Bama’s and Auburn’s collective to say either way.

Mark Cuban has bragged about how much he gave them along with how much he is giving them again this year

Contributions are not tax deductible. You best have deep pockets to give the kind of money these guys are willing to give.

A cap on salary spending like the NFL model may be the way to go but not sure the legal issues since these guys are not considered employees.

What do the portal rankings actually prove? It seems it is at worst a wash for Alabama. While also signing a top 4 signing class. I think we will keep trying at football.

You have to take like 30-40 transfers to be ranked 1st, so if you don’t need transfers, you aren’t ranked. Broken logic that get preached as if it’s better than HS recruiting that makes up most of the rosters.

This won't be an overnight change. It will take 3 - 5 years. But, the declline has begun. Cody is correct. Schools like Alabama, Auburn and Oklahoma don't have the resources to sustain their programs at a competitive level in this era. We will likely need to see a tiered system, with schools like Alabama and Oklahoma playing their financial peers with lesser players. It isn't fair to have them competing against well-funded schools in the long term.

Cody Campbell didn’t say anything about Oklahoma. Last I checked, Bama and OU made the playoffs just fine. Texass didn’t despite spending 30-40 millions on their roster last year.

It’s not just about money, especially when there’s not a huge amount of difference. It’s not MLB we are talking about, at least not with the top 30-40 schools.

Texas tech stadium holds 58,000. Indianas under 55,000. School location, student body participation and hype, history, etc are all factors to some degree. Certainly money is likely #1 for over 90% of guys. But it’s not the one and only factor.

Maybe this sounds better- UT has the same number of national titles as AU since gas was 36¢/gallon.

What a horrible take.

How did UTx finish the season after throwing big money around? What? No playoff wins? Huh. So I guess big money doesn’t translate into wins.

I would have thought you geniuses from Austin would have figured out the effectiveness of money ball after watching A&M’s billion dollar roster debacle a few years ago.
