The other issue I have is Cincy is only ranked as high as they are because how over inflated ND is in the rankings. Anyone that defends Cincy uses their best win against ND as their basis but yet ND should not be in the top 10.

ND 8 wins include only 3 teams above .500. Two are 6-3 and one is 5-4. Just amazes me people will criticize other teams in the top 10 about who they play and how close their games are to justify Cincy.

glass houses man

Alabama's wins are against

5-4 Miami
FCS Mercer
4-5 Florida
1-8 Southern Miss
7-2 Ole Miss (#15)
5-4 Miss State
4-5 Tennessee
4-5 LSU

Other than reputation, what has Alabama done with its schedule to present as the #2 team as opposed to the other 1 loss and/or undefeated teams ranked lower than them?

2020: TAMU

You honestly believe they could have won the National Championship? Seriously? They got beat by Alabama 53-24. Yes, it was early in the year, but Alabama does not lose steam as the season goes on. They get stronger.

quote:

2018: ND, UGA

Georgia was not good enough in 2018. Very few, if any Georgia fans would say we were. ND? They made the playoffs. And lost 30-3.

quote:

2017: OSU, Wisonsin

OSU? they lost two games in the regular season. Wisconsin.
There were three teams that had a chance in 2017.

Alabama, Georgia and Oklahoma State.

None of the teams had a serious chance of winning. Were some of those good teams? yes. Good enough to win the championship? No.

quote:

Most years _any_ team in the top 6-8 could throw an upset and change the playoffs.

Are there chances for an upset? Sure. For them to win? No. I can't think of a single year in which the best team did not win the championship. An argument COULD be made for 2017 since that game went into OT.

Yes I am butting in but....match up Ole Miss at #15 with ND....then who does Cincinnati have on their schedule that matches up with the rest of Alabama's schedule? I mean really? Your argument is that Cincinnati's schedule is as hard as Alabama's?

No, my argument was in response to his remarks about Notre Dame's schedule. He said they're only in the top 10 to prop up Cincinnati's win over them and then went through the weakness of their schedule, a schedule that isn't too dissimilar from Alabama's schedule on paper.

4-5 Louisville
FCS Austin Peay
6-3 Arkansas (#25)
4-5 Tennessee

Notre Dame
3-6 Florida State
5-5 Toledo
6-3 Purdue (#19)
6-3 Wisconsin (#18)
4-5 Va Tech
4-5 USC
5-4 UNC
2-7 Navy

My bad, then. I should have kept quiet.

Just glancing over your post it would appear as if none of the front runners for the playoffs have much of a schedule...including us, of course.

There are dozens of different SOS computer models with different rankings. I've seen Notre Dame in the teens, and I've seen Alabama in the high 30s, depending on which SOS model you choose. Regardless, what you posted doesn't show there's some huge disparity between Alabama's and Notre Dame's schedules. You both lost to the highest ranked teams on your schedules. Notre Dame has two wins over ranked teams, Alabama has one. The rest of your opponents have been mediocre to bad. But if you want to quibble about who is worse/better between Southern Miss, Mercer, Navy, and Toledo, by all means knock yourself out.

Bama will lose at least one more (likely SEC Championship) and not make it in.
OU can get shafted idgaf. They, like Notre Dame, do not belong in the CFP. It’ll all sort out.
My guess:
1- Georgia
2- Ohio State
3- Oregon
4- Michigan State

Georgia will win it all finally

I think Oregon could easily lose to Utah

And there is a 0% chance both Michigan State and Ohio State make it. They play in a couple weeks. The loser will be out of the playoff race

Naaaaah. Michigan State and Ohio State still have to play, I think. That will give one of those two their second loss.

I also believe that Penn State has to play Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. I think they beat at least one of those.

bama getting those "they're bama" comments that are keeping them at number 2. You beat a bad LSU team by essentially one point per yard of rushing. It would be great to have a CFP Committee that doesn't use history as part of their ranking criteria.

LSU is the real loser! They couldn't get Fisher and that is a bummer!

ESPN's Playoff Predictor is out now, where you can choose just about any remaining scenario for the top 15 teams.

It's saying that OU can drop a regular season game, but if they still win the conference championship, they have like a 94% chance of still getting in. That percentage might change slightly depending on who they lose to, but it's interesting.

Of course if they win out, it's >99%, but just about everyone is saying that.

Cincy's chances of making it if they win out is 91%.

How accurate this thing is...who knows? But it's a fun little gadget to play around with and offers more options than the FiveThirtyEight predictor.

This is nonsensical.

If they can upset they can absolutely win.

Who has the most quality wins in the top 10? I'm not sure any team can make an argument there and its a pretty complex rabbit hole to go down.BTW, I was defending the scheduling of Cincinnati more than anything but beating ND on the road was certainly a quality win.

It's exactly what yoy're doing with Cincinnati.

I am not saying anyone has an outstanding schedule to claim for their resume but my point is Cincy has played no one outside of their win over ND. The whole argument being made by anyone in the media is their quality win over ND. On top of that all these same media guys are quick to criticize every team in the top 10 for lack of strong wins so they can compare them to Cincy resume but they have yet to talk about how weak of a schedule ND is playing because it would not fit their narrative.

At no time am I advocating for UA or any school in the top 10 or elsewhere. I am pointing out Cincy with their weak schedule is only in the top 10 being prompt up by a ND team I do not feel should be there either. The media the last two weeks have compared every top 10 schedule to Cincy with the the exception of ND who they only want to say what a great win for Cincy. They have yet to dive into ND schedule like they have other top 10 teams because their narrative to support Cincy would not look as good.

What don’t you get??
If Bama runs the table.. and loses to UGA they are out., if they win then both are in.. doesn’t matter they are ranked #2.

Do you really think.. an 13-0 OU champion is gonna be left out over both 12-1 Oregon and OSU champions… won’t happen.. can’t justify it..

Cincinnati knows the deal. With their schedule, they have to be 13-0. AND will only get in over 2 loss P5 champions not those with 0-1 loss.

What's to "dive into?"

They've beat two ranked teams and if you wanna look at the schedules
and victories of the everyone else
ranked in the top 10,be my guest.

Michigan?Michigan State? Ohio State? Oklahoma? Why not "dive" into their schedules?

Show me their significant victories.BTW,all are ranked ahead
of ND.
