Good for him. A miracle worker!

I don’t know why people are saying it’s a stupid move because he will not win a natty there. He might win one this year. Indiana is that good.

And even if he doesn't who cares.
9 win seasons don't come around often there and he'll be in the playoffs back to back years unless an FSU style collapse happens
This is the most relevant Indiana has been since the 1900s lol. Let them eat.

Anyone explain why Indiana is investing to this degree in football? A good season and now willing to make their guy the second highest paid coach in the land? It’s very Aggie of them. Difference is our desperation to win is well established over decades of caring way too much.
Indiana has an enormous amount of money they can spend. Not a lot of people know it but they have Texas and Texas A&M level funds. They can do this without breaking a sweat.

He's got his team at #3 with a roster that has 7 guys on it that were 4*s in HS. Rivals says they have 5 4*s in the 2026 class, not hard to imagine they might flip a few more before signing day and Im sure their 2027 class will be good now that he has back to back years of proof of concept
They probably wont win it this year, but if he doesnt go senile they have a pretty good shot to get there by the 2030s when his contract ends
Get paid top money, low pressure from fans who will treat your family like royalty, and probably get the stadium named after you when you retire. Not a dumb move at all

I'd feel a lot better about this if he had more years at Indiana, especially ones with something other than great play at QB.

Bingo. Anyone who fails to see that is a retard.

Every QB hes coached has been the player of the year for their respective conference, he also picked their QB last year and this year in the portal. I wouldnt bet against him having good QBs more often than not
The North Texas coach also fits that mold with QB development, thankfully the gators wont go with a high risk high reward coach next go around

The World is gone mad, economics tells you that the market worked, but paying people $10m a year to coach college football is insane.

2 years at IU. Good QB in yr 1. Great QB in year 2.
Rest of his career at non D1 schools and JMU.
No track record at P5 school with average QB.
History says IU overpaid here.
How would you judge Kelly?

The past means nothing.
We've only had 1 year of the 12 team playoff in the NIL era. There's not enough data to support any conclusions, yet, but Indiana will be in playoffs with chance at a natty in 2 of 2 years and Penn State only 1 of 2 years.

2023 - $4.5
2024 - $8
2025 - $11.6
Hats off to Indiana for stepping up to the plate.

So the dominoes begin to fall. One big name is off the table when there are very few "big" names in play realistically and major programs like Penn St, Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, etc likely in the hunt.
Should be interesting...does the lack of upgradable candidates combined with ridiculous buyouts keep a Freeze or Napier in their offices for another year?

2033? That is ambitious.
At what age do you just want to enjoy your wealth and do whatever the hell you want, whenever the hell you want?

I would bet Freeze gets another year, Napier only if he pulls out a couple more upsets. Throw in Virginia Tech, UCLA, and possibly Wisconsin and its a very crowded market for coaches this year.

As well they should have. No matter what effort is made to rationalize it, that whole episode was an embarrassing clusterfrick.
