The SEC showing its arse to the nation with this very public and dramatic display was unnecessary. It damages the brand of our conference. The member schools (Bama) that have fueled Sankey to act on their behalf and even consider expelling a founding member is dirty.

IMHO, the only way these actions could be justified is IF more damaging evidence of LSU's wrongdoing is revealed. But to fly off the cuff, congregate in secret, leaving the LSU Administration out of discussions and then fast-track their meeting to vote on LSU's future in this conference is wrong. That's no professional way to run the nation's top conference.

Exactly. This federal ruling would prevent state and local governments from passing TROs or anything that would delay that ruling

So y’all are good with the SEC telling Chambliss to move on and he’s no longer allowed to play for member of the SEC?

My guess is that would be a “no”.

You still haven't gotten an answer?

They’re too busy pouching air because the SEC just admitted they don’t have any evidence LSU actually did anything wrong.

The SEC has always had such authority, with member vote.

Why do they need it without?

I find it interesting that it was Tennessee's president that drove this after Tennessee's coach asked his fans to assault Kiffin.

Might be something worth revisiting in the little pow-wow tomorrow.

Yes, which is why a lot of us just want LSU to be out of the SEC now. We know we won't be treated fairly.

The SEC isn't the top conference anymore, and this little episode might knock it down even further.

Why did this need to happen only to we end up back here after all that?

This LSU team is going to be pissed off all season and more determined to win than they were before. The entire state from the plant workers to the governor and behind this program, more so than I ever recall.

I’d say it was worth it. But time will tell. Look out for an absolute curb stomping of the rebs in two weeks.

Nope. It was all dumb as shite. This should have been handled behind closed doors. This wasn't in anyone's best interest, and the SEC needs to tread lightly, the BIG has been kicking our arse lately. New leadership is, in fact, needed. This has been apparent since the latest round of media rights musical chairs.

This is worth repeating and I added the bold for emphasis.... If I were a President of any university in the SEC, I would have began to move towards removing Sankey the moment he testified under oath he did not know how to define the difference between an amateur and a professional athlete...

This was my impression too but it appears they needed more teeth in legal terms?

It’s because they have the authority but are acting illegally.

They want a federal court to say LSU has no right to due process before they do the thing they know would get them sued.

The SEC can normally vote anyone out.

The problem is that given the context and reasons cited… this particular case is not just any vote to expel but clear retaliation, violation of a court order, violation of the Sherman act, and selective enforcement.

That’s the thing. It doesn’t need a court to say that it can expel members. The bylaws already say so. The whole suit is unnecessary.

The lawsuit is about who dictates the conference rules, conference enforcement, and conference punishment.

Replace SEC with NCAA.
It has been readily apparent that judges make the rules, judges are in charge of enforcing the rules, and judges are in charge of punishment.

Hate all you want.
If you want college football (instead of no rules because the lawyers are coming), then this has to happen. And blame the NCAA for being limp dicked for the past 25 years for letting it get this far.

I believe simply we fans do not know all the facts around this spat. I've said in another thread neither side appear to be acting rationally based on the information out there.

It may or may not be necessary. The real judgment will be in a few months after more is disclosed over time.

This. I think there's far more going on and I think the presidents of other schools are very upset about stuff we don't know much about.

I forget which reporter (it might've been Pate) mentioned that one of the big things is that the SEC does not believe that LSU's program is controlled by its AD or President but rather by the state's governor whose interference has made them ungovernable. That's why LoIC keeps coming up -- the SEC does not believe LSU is in charge of LSU at the moment.

You don't have various state AG's speaking out and involving themselves publicly without a pile of behind the scenes shite.

Yes. I saw someone yesterday state that LSU is the test dummy for SEC self governance in the new age of college football. With the decline of the NCAA, it is important that the SEC can govern itself and keep everyone in check. To do that, they have to be willing to go all the way (expulsion). Ultimately this will prove that the SEC doesn't need the NCAA to be standing over their shoulder.

No doubt. Sports reporters are mentioning it as chatter right now but I'd love to read/hear details on it.
