"I was home in New Hampshire and Nick asked me if I would come down just to watch football," Kelly said in his introductory news conference. "And I had nothing to do with them playing Clemson or I didn't give them any insight into playing Clemson.

"But, you hear things about Nick Saban being (borderline crazy obsessed), but I'll tell you what, the classy maneuver on the Tuesday before their national championship game to invite me down to Alabama to just spend some time with him and him to take 45 minutes out of his day during that week to talk to me about his experience in the National Football League and what it's like to coach at Alabama and just share some thoughts.

"I think we all kind of gravitate towards each other and I think one of the things we do is we all love the game, have a passion for the game and we want to see it played and done the right way."

I don't know he would lie about that but I think Saban didn't invite him just so they could "watch football"

I really don't take much from that. Did he like it here? Was he impressed? Did he learn anything? I mean... all I see is that Saban invited him to come hang out. Perhaps I ought to read the whole thing, lol.

Nick: "Guess picking Bradford over Foles was a bad idea, huh?"
Chip: "2 words Nick: Daunte Culpepper"

This is a very "Coach Bryant" type gesture.

Kelly mentions having 45 minutes to talk to Coach Saban. I wonder if Coach Saban looked at his watch and said: "I have another appointment in 15 minutes I have to prepare for. Please go down the hall and see Lane Kiffin ..."

Nah ... If you have been paying attention, one special thing Coach Saban does is stay in contact and constantly replenish the "favors" jar with influential NFL coaches past and present. Hiring Kiffin is just one example. He does it to a lesser extent with college coaching infrastructure too.

And of course here in Louisiana we all know he does the same thing with the referees association.

It was classy for Saban to talk to Kelly for 45 minutes after inviting him to Tuscaloosa from fricking New Hampshire?

Kelly sounds like a moron.

Saban doesn't fly someone down while he's prepping for a title game to "hang out". I'm sure Chip looked at Clemson film and gave us some input, and I'm sure he picked Saban's brain on some things as well, considering he just got fired in the NFL. Mutual beneficial exchange of ideas, I'd guess.

Those two men seem like the type that would "let their hair down" and chit chat and gab for 45 minutes while one is looking for a job and the other prepping for a NCG.
