Look, I don’t know how this will work out but it will be a hell of a lot easier to recruit to UK than BYU.

While he should definitely be proud of his accomplishments as a player, that does not even remotely ensure success as a coach in what is a rapidly improving SEC. It's no longer Kentucky and Arkansas, with everyone else just happy managing the odd regular season or conference tournament title. Florida pushed you guys in the mid 2000s, and now you've got Tennessee and Alabama making deep runs, Auburn with a very solid coach, and other programs investing into succeeding (plus a better-than-average Texas program joining soon).

It's possible he'll be a homerun hire, but he's definitely a below-par hire for a program like Kentucky.

Mark Pope has won the SEC in basketball more recently than Arkansas -



then again so has Alabama Auburn Florida LSU Mississippi State South Carolina Tennessee....and - oh my - Texas A&M -
