This looks feasible but the problem with college athletics is know one is in charge and conferences and school presidents are all going Willy-nilly in every directions. Your going to convince the University of Texas who is currently making the most money of any school to throw out that model and start sharing revenue equally which is what it’s going to take to get all the others to get on board. I just don’t believe they’ll do it.

The top Power 5 schools are too greedy and egos are to big to make anything work currently. Until this current model is threatened to the extent that they get desperate then a change will happen. Until then they will hope this is over soon and will continue on as usual. The Power 5 schools don’t care if all other FCS and evening lower tear power 5 schools and conferences have football or not. They will give lip service that they do but it’s been and will continue to be every man for himself.

Both of our favorite teams have done quite well over the past 20 years. Why fix a working machine? Big programs eating a responsible amount ( exactly 1 ) cupcake per year is also part of the local economy circle of life mechanics.

Neaux! I'm not trying to convince Texas to change anything. The Butthorns are not much of a threat. The current system is doing its job.

Plus, I explicitly like the chaotic, lumpiness of College Football. I don't want homogeneous, interchangeable, modular conferences. It reminds me of Goodell's clusterfrick, and which is a cautionary tale, not a model to emulate.

I don't agree with the OP's proposal.

[quote]Mizzou is NEVER leaving the SEC for any reason[/quote

Don’t remind us. What a horrible decision that turned out to be for the SEC.

Considering Arkansas, Louisville and Kentucky have National Championships in basketball and conferences consider more than one sport, you are misguided.

Never say never. We all know the Big 8 ain’t coming back, but this would be the next best thing.

As long as Bama get to keep Tennessee and possibly add Vandy as the permanent opponents - I am fine.

Hince why expanding will NOT keep divisions...scheduling would suffer.

"Too short"? 12 games at 1/week takes 3 months!

No one cares about mizz, the answer is no, we don't think youre heartbroken about this, since you weren't a thought in our minds. So irrelevant.

Well.... Arkansas, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Missouri, Louisville and lots more are consistently terrible.

Arkansas was competitive/good until Petrino fell off a motorcycle.

Kentucky? Louisville? Missouri?

Kentucky has been 3rd or better in their division 4 straight years, and was 10-3 two years ago.

Louisville has had ONE losing record in the past decade. They also had a Sugar Bowl win over Florida and followed it up with a 12-1 season. If Louisville is consistent in anything, it’s not at being bad.

Missouri? They won back-to-back East titles after joining the SEC. They damn near played their way into the natty in 2013.

UCF should join big boys Boise already proved they can hang. Cough Georgia beat down Cough

You want to talk consistency? UCF was 0-12 in 2015.

Boise peaked earlier this decade. They’re still VERY solid, and joining a weak PAC 12 wouldn’t hurt them too much, but it’s still a step up from the likes of Air Force, New Mexico, and Nevada.

Specific to Baylor, its pretty wild that a school in the national title conversation for football (marginally, but still), Men's BB, and Women's BB, all in the most recent year would be dumped out of the entire power conference alignment.

Baylor deserves multiple death penalties for their steady track record of egregious crimes, scandals, and cover ups over the last 20 years.

Conferences are too big now. If you are in a conference and there are teams you don't play in 5 years, then it's too big.

A 16-team conference divided into four pods with a 9-game conference schedule actually makes it less likely that this happens.

Let's take the SEC for example:

If you had 4 4-team pods, each school would play the other schools in its pod (3) plus 2 schools in each of the other pods every season. (6) You could even keep certain "cross-pod" rivalries intact (such as Alabama-Tennessee and Auburn-Georgia) without impacting the scheduling format.

Looks like Rutgers didn't make the cut for any conference.
