I don't know if we'll ever truly know how good or bad a coach Les Miles was. He definitely could recruit, and he won the national championship once and SEC title twice. How many more titles does he win (SEC and National) if Alabama doesn't hire Nick Saban?

I think we know pretty well who he was.

He did recruit well, but those classes were sometimes inflated with high star skill players that we didn't use effectively, and sometimes light on the line of scrimmage. I think he could have beaten Alabama a couple more times if he had done a better job recruiting and developing the offensive line, in particular.

He got stubborn holding on to Cam Cameron.

We were successful early in his tenure, not only because Saban and his staff left the roster loaded, but also because he did his job and trusted subordinates to do theirs. After 2008, he had a vision for the offense and he never took his hands off it. After 2011, he started micromanaging all kinds of little things.

He probably wins in 2011 if Saban's not at Alabama, and we at least win the west in 2012, but I don't think he wins anything after that.

Les was a very good but not great coach for about 8 years, but refused to adapt his style on or off the field to the changing game.

You can count the number of schools he could have won a National Title at on one hand.

I shake my head when I hear someone say the 2011 championship ruined him.

His head was upside down before that. He made the team do an almost 4 hour walk thru for that game, and the result was bad.

Why does Brian Kelly own so much real estate on this board?

Because they're completely terrified and worried. I don't blame them, but it is pretty weird.

Can't believe I'm defending Clemson here but ND barely won that game at home while Trevor Lawrence was out due to COVID. Otherwise Kelly's probably 0-4.
Just looked at the box score of the second game (ACC Title). Clemson, with Trevor, was up 34-3 in the 3rd quarter. The 3 pts Notre Dame put on the board were the first points of the game. Notre Dame scored a TD late in the game with all of Dabo’s sons playing on the defensive line (I kid).

Well, now we know why LSU fans think he's so amazing.

You think you know, but you don't know.

Here's the real reason LSU fans are glad to have Brain Kelly:

(#5 on this list with 34 players on 2021 NFL rosters),

what difference does it make comparing total players on NFL rosters in 2021 to let's say being 3-4 vs Michigan? It doesn't mean that Michigan didn't have more talented teams some years than ND. UGA is absolutely loaded especially the last 2 yrs...clearly more talent than ND

I hate ND and always have but they simply can't recruit the same players as the SEC and OSU. Breaking news the SEC teams have better talent and depth than ND

I remember watching the first game and it was a great game with T-Law out but I don't remember anything about the ACC title game other than ND getting their arse beat bad.

Thanks for the recap.

Is LSU a better program than Notre Dame though?

Unless we’re benchmarking achievements and stats from 30+ years ago, yes.

LSU has three natties since ND’s last one, and the only reason ND sniffed one recently is because BK resurrected the program that was flatlined for over a decade.

LSU’s ceiling is higher than Notre Dame’s, BK, who knows ND better than anyone on this board, saw that and jumped.

That is all true, but Notre Dame's average recruiting ranking for all of Kelly's classes I think is around 12-13 ( I calculated it back when LSU hired him).

So Kelly is taking a top 15 roster in terms of talent and coaching them up to top 5. His roster has never been when he started fall camp in August from 1 to 85 on par with Bama, UGA, Ohio State or LSU during his tenure at Notre Dame.

Making fun of him?

Troll OP is dead serious.

These are setup threads.
If Brian Kelly does really well yall can look back and say " we were just joking".
If BK shits the bed at LSU you can look at this thread and say " see I told you so".

Wrong. If he does well (he won't), we'll just still call him a killer, since his action and/or inaction led to the death of a student.
