”We had to recruit him back, so we had to give him a comprehensive plan as what we were going to do in the weight room, how we were going to continue to develop him technically as a quarterback, all of those pieces utilizing the resources that we have here.

"It was really just having a comprehensive year-round training program for him right here. And then providing him the opportunity to do other things as well, providing him the contacts to go out on the West Coast and train with other elite quarterbacks. When we were able to meet and he saw that we had a comprehensive plan, and I think it helped him make his decision."

Now this isn’t the craziest news, Daniels was a good QB. I am surprised BK “recruited” him to come back. BK must feel good about JD next year to let Howard walk.

if a true freshman doesnt want to stay for his sophomore year to compete for the job you let him walk.

its on howard if he doesnt have the chest. its not like he was buried on the depth chart and overlooked for years.

Yeah, it’s telling that Kelly felt better keeping Daniels than rolling with a new QB. I guess Nuss and Howard still need development. I personally think JD just needs to work on his accuracy (get it around 65%) and pull the trigger earlier. That’s doable.

Walker saw the handwriting on the wall...he wasn't beating Nuss out for 2nd on the depth chart and with Rickie Collins now in camp and Collin Hurly coming in next year...yeah he had no choice but to transfer IMO...

Kiffin has more QB controversy than any other teams. Sanders and Howard are more talented than crowd favorite Dart.

Daniels isnt terrible. statistically hes one of the best QBs to come thru LSU which is a testament to how shitty the offense was under Miles. Ed Os greatest contribution besides Burrow and the natty was modernizing the offense.

Howard couldve been a legend at LSU, or he couldve underachieved, but it says more about him leaving without competing than it says about Kelly letting him go.

It's the era of the transfer portal.

Every coach gotta be selling 24/7.

Howard is 2 years away from being ready to play in the SEC.

I also think Walker wasn't a great fit for the LSU scheme. The OC at LSU really wants the QB to stretch the field with his legs and can get outside on a scramble. Walker is athletic (for a QB) but not in that way.

Here is my question, y’all think BK “recruited” JD back, knowing one of his QB’s would transfer in doing so? If so, that’s kinda cool and lot of faith he has on JD to win games next year.

Walker also doesn’t do anything physically that jumps off the page. I think him being an LSU legacy is why everyone wanted him to be the man. Nuss has shown far more arm talent than I saw from Howard in his limited reps

I think he wants his team to be the best it can and wasn’t going to make a decision based on whether a true freshman who hasn’t played might transfer as a result. The portal is just a reality of the sport now, especially at the QB position

i get what youre saying, but who would anticipate that would cause the true freshman to leave? you always try to return your seniors, something Miles struggled with heavily mind you.

Kelly did his job returning the starter that got you to an SEC championship, while he felt he had the luxury of two other QBs in his back pocket.

again i just think the situation says more about Howard.

He wasn’t transferring unless they made Nuss the starter in January.

He graduated like 2 years ago so he may have been ready to try his luck at the next level. Throw in an NIL deal from Gordon and it was a pretty easy decision to return. He still gives us a better chance to win (big) games than Nuss right now.

He completed 68.6% of his passes last year.

He just needs to gain some confidence and give his receivers the opportunity to make plays.

Nuss takes too many chances and Daniels doesn't take enough.

Some sources were picking him middle of the draft. Good call on him coming back, he needs a little more work IMO.

I certainly hope so.

I don't know. I think we had that last year because we had a horrible offensive line from go and our OC was comfortable with Daniels after coaching Ridder.

I also think we had that last year because our RB's aren't very good.
