Someone said something like, he would of been a 3rd/4th rounder if he went to the draft this year. I think he would of tested very well at the combine, especially this year with everyone drooling over Anthony Richardson. Athleticism matters at the NFL.

Yeah, me.

Right now Daniels looks like a future Lamar Jackson. I think he can become a better passer than Jackson.

IMO, Anthony Richardson is not worth a 1st round pick.

With that said, I also don’t think JD went back to LSU if he didn’t think he could improve his draft stock, in a year Caleb Williams is probably the first QB taken. I personally like the guy, but do I think he can be a 1st Round QB?

Maybe. That depends on a lot of factors, and not all are in his control. Next year we might get a dozen QB's that get first round grades. They ain't all getting drafted first round.

quote:

That’s very optimistic, but I don’t even know what to he needs to truly improve on. Has he hit his college ceiling or no?

I don't think he's hit his ceiling. There's definitely a lot that needs improving, but there are also things he's really good at.

Zach Mettenberger and Joe Burrow are interesting case studies. Both transferred in, both came into a team with an elite defense(Mett in 2012 and Burrow in 2018). Both had struggles connecting with wide receivers that became elite groups in their second year(ODBJ and Jarvis Landry in 2013, Chase and Jefferson in 2019).

While Daniels is not as timely or accurate as Burrow, he's an elite athlete and has a better brain for the game than Mett did.

Malik Nabers might be the only nationally known name in that LSU WR room right now, but there is serious talent and depth.

The strengths also match up better at TE and the running game. Jeremy Hill and Clyde Edwards-Helaire were better for their teams than anything in LSU's backfield right now, but Daniels does not need an elite RB. He IS the elite runner.

Plus, the current LSU TE room is probably better than anything we've ever had, and that absolutely is a result of Brian Kelly.

I'm optimistic. I like Jayden Daniels. I like his attitude, and I think he's eager and capable of improving in his weaknesses. I'm looking for changes in 2 big areas:
1. Weight. He played at 200 lb last year. That's a little light to run like he does. He needs some more muscle and fat.
2. Throwing receivers open. He has a relatively high completion rate because he's been scared to throw. He needs to trust his receivers to take 50/50 balls and he needs to throw them open.

The game vs FSU in Orlando will be very telling how JD’s year will go imo.

Howard leaving was more than no chest. He fulfilled his mothers wishes and his dream. At the end of the day, kid made the best decision for himself.
As far as recruiting Daniels back, everyone has to. It’s more like sitting down with a financial adviser about your retirement fund, or your boss about how in X years you will move up the corporate ladder.

I don't blame Kelly but there was something more going on with Bech, Howard & Kelly. It was wild how Bech just disappeared last year. Wasn't surprised at all that Howard left after Bech did. Just wish it hadn't been Ole Miss but it's good for the rivalry, I guess.

Bech just got passed on the depth chart. It would have been nice to have a tank at slot receiver, but you can't bench someone better for Bech.

am surprised BK “recruited” him to come back. BK must feel good about JD next year to let Howard walk.

You are surprised a coach wanted to get his starting QB who had arguably a great year to come back, rather than moving forward with a QB room that had one start combined?

Daniels is more elusive as a runner. And he can make notice as a passer. You damn right recruit him to stay while you let the younger guys develop as well.

I personally think JD just needs to work on his accuracy (get it around 65%) and pull the trigger earlier

This. He needs to trust himself and his receivers. His legs more than make up for the occasional mistake, so commit and let it rip. Especially with better chemistry with his receivers.

CFB is now only about NOW because of the portal. Assuming you can only keep two QBS, they kept the correct two as they know Nuss can win games, is a leader, has crazy good velocity etc.

Here is my question, y’all think BK “recruited” JD back, knowing one of his QB’s would transfer in doing so? If so, that’s kinda cool and lot of faith he has on JD to win games next year.

I think CBK decided JD gives LSU the best shot to win next year. I don’t think he’s wrong. You start there and you let the rest in your QB room do what they need to do: either stay and work and compete, or leave.

Even losing some younger talent, this is the overall the best the LSU QB room has been in many years, save 2019 of course.

What if I told you his accuracy was 68.6% in 2022? What percentage does he need to get it up to now?

Don’t pay attention to him! It’s the epitome of being self unaware.
