I want a coach who has ZERO ties to Oklahoma. That would be a refreshing start. Also, the Arbuckle experiment has failed miserably. Kevin Wilson needs to call the plays.

He has a great football mind and great leadership. Unfortunately, he is solely focused on defense. We havent had a halfway competent OC since FULR left. Our only decent qb in that time frame has been Dillon Gabriel, who we then ran off for Jackson Arnold (big oopsy daisy).
In my opinion, we need to poach a competent OC from an SEC or BIG10 school. We have had 0 success with these OCs coming from G5 schools trying to run their shite. The defenses in our conference are just too good for their flash in the pan bullshite offenses.

Ha. That’s not a fair question. Seeing him hire Jim Knowles tells me he’s serious about having a balanced team. Something Venables hasn’t done yet.

Heupel was a problem under Stoops. We wanted him out. Different environments matter. He’s doing well at Tennessee. Unless he gets fired, he has it made there. Tennessee is a destination job.

Quick question, if Michigan turns out to be good this season, as in makes-the-CFP good, does that make losing to them by one score a "good loss" which is the argument Texas made last year after the same thing happened to them against Ohio State?

Great analysis and couldn’t agree more.
OUs future is concerning with Venables, and it’s more concerning on the recent contract extension.
Hoping for changes, but you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
Good news is with Georgia and Texas coming up, we’ll really find out where the future stands.

I didn't like the BV hire. Last season's offense was pretty bad but the season overalll gave me a little ray of hope. Then after all the offseason talk about running the ball, having actual TE's, both of which were nicely utilized in game 1, and then watching that Michigan game unfold.. his seat needs to be red hot because we are now officially in the Gary Gibbs 2.0 era.
But what does the OU admin do? They pass out contract extensions like they're Tic Tac's. "Oh, but he's building a program. He's a program builder!" yeah that's the coach's job. Fans don't give a shite about program loyalty. Hell that's what got us here in the first place. I was hoping they'd go after Lanning but it soon became obvious BV was their one & only candidate. Why?
Anyway, here we are again. Yet another boneheaded hire of a no-name small-timer at OC who on Saturday shite the bed in stupendous fashion. The QB + a 150 Lb. WR = 16 rushes. The RB room: 13 rushes. Mateer obviously having a bad day, so what's he do? Abandon the run and keep forcing the passes that aren't working.

Right. Next two ranked opponents are #2 Georgia and #1 Texas... looks like another two losses incoming.
So barring a miracle, OU will start the season 2-3. That's rough. I feel like the heat will be turned up pretty high if that's the case.

We rectified our head coaching issues with a new hire. If our new coach starts out 5-20 against ranked opponents, I suspect he'll be fired or severely on the hot seat.
