Well, there's the Mississippi River Delta and also the Mississippi Delta. The Mississippi Delta is a very distinct geo-cultural area. Technically, the area you're referring to is the Lower MS River Basin.

As bad as things are in the Mississippi Delta, they are even worse across the river in Louisiana and Arkansas.

Aint it actually called the Yazoo - Mississippi Delta because its the actual delta of the Yazoo river, or where the Yazoo ends in the Mississippi? Its the region between the 2, right? Just curious - not that it matters in the least. Not a lot of people know it but at one time it was one of the wealthiest regions in the US. In the late 19th century it was a massive reason New Orleans was and is what it is today. Interesting region. Again, just curious - not at all important....

It's not the hilly bluffs of western MS it's the flat floodplain of SE AR and NE LA that receives the sediment washed downriver. That's what a delta is.

The hilly bluffs of the state end just north of Vicksburg. The MS Delta is roughly between the Yazoo and MS rivers, north toward Memphis. Check a topo map and it’s a very distinct region.

How about you try it and notice the very distinctive and enormous floodplain west of the river. That is the delta of the Mississippi River. Between the Mississippi and the Ouachita in LA and AR.

Yes. I was responding to a poster that claimed the MS bluffs ended north of Vicksburg. They don't.

It's not a delta. A delta is the end of a river going into the ocean. The landmass they refer to as the Delta in MS, is 300 to 350 miles from the actual MS delta.
