Musselman-Pearl is a total clash of personalities. I’m not sure why they don’t seem to like each other, but they don’t.

A bit of a contrast from Pearl-Oates, although Auburn and Alabama are bigger rivalries as schools, as SOG pointed out they seem to like each other a lot more.

Oh, for sure. BBN always has good numbers in Athens. I guess you can chalk that up to there probably being a decent amount of UK grads in Atlanta.

Same goes for Auburn and Alabama, at least my junior and senior years when those two programs were ascendant. There was one game my junior year, which is think was the year that Auburn burst onto the scene and won the SEC before petering out in the NCAAT against Clemson, where they kicked our arse, and my buddy got pissed because they took over the coliseum and began to sing their version of “Glory” when our band played it.

Another time, when Colin Sexton played for Alabama, that same buddy was heckling Sexton before the game, got him riled up, and he tried a big dunk right in front of us at the end of warm ups and missed, and then started to yell at the aforementioned friend. Sexton I think went on to score 30.

Outside of social stuff, the thing I miss the most about college was just walking over to the Coliseum for SEC basketball games. It was awesome and I took it for granted.

LSU's main "rival" has changed over the years, which means we probably don't have one.

Same. I went to every home game for four years, didn’t pay a dime (obviously outside of the athletic fee as a part of the tuition), and would even be given a free pizza from time to time. I didn’t realize how abnormal and awesome it was until I left and started watching most home games on the TV in my living room.

Arkansas/Missouri was growing when we joined the SEC, but settled down after Norm and Nolan were gone. Then it was Kentucky and Arkansas for obvious reasons.

Alabama always had the athletes to run with Arkansas, so I've always felt like it was a bit of a rivalry. IIRC, Alabama beat us the year we won the national championship. I would say the same for Tennessee.

Lately, Auburn and LSU have been a rivalry for me, mostly because they've had better teams. I'm unaware of Muss not liking other coaches, but I don't know?

Texas was a bit of a rivalry in the SWC, but they rarely had a good team back then. Houston was a bigger SWC rivalry for us.

We've also kind of risen and fallen together. Arkansas was obviously much better than us in the 90s, but we competed with them as well as anyone in the league when they came in. Then we both fell into perpetual bubble status in the mid/late 2000s, and then we both kind of ascended back into the discussion when we hired Muss/Oats in the same year.

Honestly, a big reason why you have Kentucky fans squeezing into other places is because it's routinely been expensive to get a good seat in Rupp. I can either sit in the nose bleeds and still pay double what I would to say, see the same team play at Vandy just up the road from just a couple rows from the floor.

Same thing with neutral sites and the SEC Tournament when we're really good.

As for Atlanta, I believe outside of the state Kentucky Atlanta is still the second largest alumni group.

Alabama/Auburn is a rivalry because we are rivals as schools, but even now with both of us being pretty good it isn't full of piss and vinegar (I think both Oats and Pearl actually are pretty similar and respect each other). It's fun that we are both good and the games are fun, but it isn't really hateful.

This. It's a rivalry because of the names on the jerseys, but it's pretty tame. I don't know there is a real hatred rivalry with AU basketball, as hard as piglet fans want to try.

The Pitino/Richardson years were the best IMO. Both teams were good and the games were always nail biters it seems and they meant something on the national scale.

Those two seemed to like one another as well, I remember Richardson gave Pitino a pair of boots one time. That was our time in the sun I reckon…

I know this will get superbowl comments, but Auburn and Arkansas have developed a recent rivalry. Wes and Allen Flannigan are from Arkansas and the teams are on an upward trajectory with competitive a-hole head coaches.

frick Memphis and Penny. We should not play them again until his bitch arse is gone. All that bullshite he talked and made up. Just to chicken out and cancel the game because 2 players got Covid. Then tried to say they wanted to reschedule after all of that.

Honestly it has more to do with Arkansad fans carrying over the penis envy they’ve had over our football program for the last 10-15 years, and projecting that onto our basketball team, than it has anything to do with the Flanigans. I’ve never heard or seen a single Arkansad fan cite Wes or Allen as a reason they don’t like Auburn

Just a reason I figured for the intensity when the teams play. I feel like Auburn-Arkansas games in bball have been turned up a notch since Muss and Pearl started coaching against each other

Maybe for Allen. I seriously doubt there’s a single Arkansad player that goes into a game vs Auburn thinking “They have a player and a coach who are from the state of Arkansad, but they aren’t razorbacks . Must beat their arse to teach them a lesson about leaving Arkansad

State and Bama was as nasty as the come back with stansbury and gottfried. Those teams would beat the living hell out of each other. The coaches would shake hands only because the conference made them.

Kentucky and Tennessee has always been heated.

Bama and auburn goes without saying. That hate is just there 24/7.
