-Both of these teams are physical as shite. Both teams averaged over 5 ypc against elite defenses, and considering Georgia was down their top two backs, what their OL did in the second half was insanely impressive. Alabama’s offense has improved its physicality SIGNIFICANTLY from last season. Much harder to box them up than it was last year.

-Keelan Russell is really good, but he still has a lot of room to grow, and that showed last night. Several open receivers he missed because he got spooked by pressure and tried to make too many throws off balance. If he can have better composure, he could be scary good.

-Holy shite Alabama dominated field position. Really the only part of the game they did dominate. Bama’s punter would’ve damn near been their MVP if they had won that game. Georgia didn’t get good starting field position the entire night.

-Gunner Stockton is just a dude. He’s not just a feel-good story anymore. He’s playing some of the best QB in the country. Some of the throws he made against tight coverage on had-to-have-it downs were elite work.

-Georgia continues to make a lot of uncharacteristic mistakes in this series. Part of it you may be able to chalk up to playing in their first real tough road environment this season, but good God did they struggle to hold onto the football. Thank God we fell on both fumbles and Gunner grabbed that bad snap. The holding penalties have also got to get cleaned up.

Overall, two of the undisputed best teams in the country. OSU and Texas have talent levels that are too high to count out from winning it all, and Notre Dame and Miami are great, they’re just hard to gauge because their schedules have been so soft to this point. But Georgia and Alabama are (yet again) clear top contenders.

Good game all around, and I’m sure the next one will be as well.

Very much agree. Game could've easily gone either way and I'm certainly not concerned about the state of things like I was after any of our losses last year. Hopefully it's a quick rebound but Alabama/Georgia appear to be the best teams in the SEC by a wide margin

Can’t say I disagree.

Was one heck of a fun game to watch

Yep. Alabama is a very young team on offense and you could tell Keelon was not comfortable. Luckily, they still have the rest of the season to improve. The talent is there and they should grow from it. A complete night and day difference from what we've had the past 2 seasons. Besides Keelon, the two true freshman rb's are really impressive.

On the other side, Georgia is still Georgia. As long as Kirby is roaming the sideline, he's always going to have great, physical teams. Gunner dropped some dimes that basically could not be defended. Great player.

If Georgia, Texas and Alabama all win out, who goes to Atlanta?

My only disagreement is in this paragraph. I still don’t think Bama is a very physical defense, especially up front. It showed, and I wouldn’t consider them elite, just pretty good.

However, I am very pleased to see the physicality in the run game has returned after a multi-year absence. OL is light years ahead of last years.

I think a rematch is in the future, these two teams are clearly the best in the league in my opinion, with the dawgs being slightly better as evidenced by last nights result.

I appreciate these kind of analyses. Sometimes the trash talking and trolling and goofy hyperbole takes away from discussion on solid matchup games because reality of the game gets skewed and distorted. This game was a lot closer and competitive than message board trolls are making it sound like. If you hadn’t watched it you’d think by sounds of it we got blown out.

I do think UGA was and ultimately is currently the better team, they have a solid identity and comfort in these types of games. I could tell Keelon never quite settled down and missed a lot of opportunities that could have been game changing. But I have been impressed with DeBoer and the coaching staff and team this year. They’re getting there and hanging in there with UGA.

Yeah, I guess I really should’ve clarified that I meant the two offenses. I was a little disappointed in our tackling yesterday. Not that Bama doesn’t have elite skill guys, they do, but even with that, Kirby teams traditionally tackle MUCH better.

Both OL’s can road grade though.

UGA's OL is as good as it has been in a long time.

Not just the YPC rushing, but the only sack allowed was because of a complete whiff by a non-OL.

I haven't rewatched. But Brooks Austin said that the sack was a mistake by Gunner on a designed run play (not a sack against a pass or RPO).

It has, which is why some of the playcalling from Grubb/Deboar was baffling.

"Hey let's pull the OT and OG going the opposite way of the run" is Gus Malzahn type of shite. The left side of AL's OL played much better than I expected last night.

I was thinking about the hit Gunner took on what I think was an RPO coming from the right side.

If there was another "sack", I cannot remember it, and if it was indeed a designed run play then it shouldn't be counted as a sack.

lol, absolutely! But after big games it’s sometimes hard to find the threads with the straight talk in it, so I appreciate when I can find one.

Bama will win the next match up. Russell will be more seasoned by then and they'll be a different set of refs.

Can't argue with anything in OP. Biggest difference last night was pass protection. Georgia's OL did it an elite level, while ours was not quite as good. The pressure caused Russell to panic a little bit and either not see open receivers or make poor throws. Not surprising given his youth, and hopefully something he can improve on learning how to deal with. I fully expect to play UGA again before the season is done and hope for a different outcome then!

Georgia and whoever gets the tie breaker

quote:

If two or more teams finish with an identical conference record, the tie is broken using the following criteria in exact order:

1. Head-to-head competition: The best record in games played against the tied teams.
2. Record versus all common conference opponents: The best record against all common conference opponents shared by the tied teams.
3. Record against the highest-placed common conference opponent: Winning percentage against the highest-placed common conference opponent in the standings, continuing down through the standings if necessary.
4. Cumulative conference winning percentage of all conference opponents: The combined conference winning percentage of all conference opponents played by each tied team (effectively strength of schedule).
5. Capped relative total scoring margin: The relative total scoring margin against all conference opponents, with offensive and defensive point margins capped per game (such as 42 points offense and 48 points defense).
6. Random draw: A live or managed random draw of the tied teams conducted by the conference office if all previous steps fail.
