1997 Georgia comes to mind.

Lol what? We went 10-2 which is good but not mind blowing. We lost to Tennessee which was clearly better than us and had a bedcrapping against Auburn, who would win the west I believe.

Let me guess, it was a fluke that we whooped Florida's arse? They weren't that great that season. Also a senior mike bobo along with Robert Edwards, Larry brown, champ bailey, Corey Allen, etc was a damn good team.

Worst Bama team since arguably 2007.

Does that make A&M a 7ish loss team most other years?

But since college football as a whole was down, you should've been fine.

and it isn't even close. Amazing what a functioning offense will do.

Glad that wizard is in Carolina.

Not even South Carolina! He would have been huge get at South Carolina.

2007 LSU, but then again anyone that won the title that season could say that.

Remains the only time a team with two losses has won an NC. Maybe that will change with the playoff

No, I should've known that they wouldn't be bright enough to distinguish between a team that overachieved based on its performance (the topic) and a perceived historical outlier though

2019 lsu - Poor defense. Most down year of college football from 2010-2020. 2ish loss team most other years

Yeah that defense was so bad that it gave up a whole 7 points to the gaggies

I'll give you two State teams:

2007 - Croom's only bowl season, was fun at the time considering how bad that decade was for State, but in reality they had no business going 8-5. Beat both Bama and Auburn with a grand total of two offensive TD's combined in those games. Barely survived a 3-9 Ole Miss team because Orgeron lost his mind and made the dumbest 4th down decision I've ever seen, and then won an UGLY bowl game against a C-USA team. Keep in mind they got demolished by the best teams they played (45-0 loss to LSU, 38-13 to West Virginia and it wasn't remotely that close).

2012 - The "We Believe" Year. That team was a total fraud. Won 8 games simply because they played a non-con schedule of Jackson State, Troy, South Alabama, and MTSU, and then beat four SEC teams that fired their coaches that year (Auburn, UK, UT, Arkansas). Bama and A&M totally exposed them, they also got beat pretty badly by LSU and Northwestern, and got run off the field by a not good Ole Miss team. That's a 4 or 5 win team in a year where 2/3 of the schedule isn't total gimme wins.

shite I meant to put that in my OP. Pegues had like 7 pick six's that season, then Coach O inexplicably went for it on 4th down in the Egg Bowl. Definitely one of the flukiest seasons ever

Wow how has 2014 FSU not been mentioned yet? They had the worst turnover Margin in the country, had an awful schedule, and managed to go undefeated into the playoff. At least it caught up to them against Oregon.

2015 going 10-3 was a way bigger fluke.

Had a dominating win over what turned out to be a terrible South Carolina team, then got embarrassed by Bama and Florida. Blew a 3 TD lead to Tennessee. Ugly wins over Mizzou, Auburn, Southern (in overtime), and Tech.

That team limped its way to a 10 win season and was lucky it didn’t go 6-6.
