He didn't say tek had a better history, the thread question is 'better job'.

Georgia Tech's history ain't too shabby. Bobby Cremins had a great run, and Hewett made it the the championship game in 2004.

Georgia Tech has had a good past 25 years of basketball since the tournament expanded to 64 teams they have made the tournament 15 times in 25 years and have made 7 sweet sixteens 2 final fours and one Championship game.

Arkansas made 18 NCAA tournaments in the same time period, 6 sweet sixteens, with 3 final fours, one runner up, and one Championship.

Not tons different if you look at things IMO.

cept our tradition goes back much further than that.....also we ain't afraid to make it rain

Yall are going to make it rain for Pel as he laughs his way to the bank.

Making it rain for Tubby Smith isn't exactly a "HOMERUN HIRE" IMO.

K. Compare then.

GT

NCAA Tournament runner up
2004
NCAA Tournament Final Four
1990, 2004
NCAA Tournament Elite Eight
1960, 1985, 1990, 2004
NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen
1960, 1985, 1986, 1990, 1992, 1996, 2004
NCAA Tournament appearances
1960, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010

Now, you look up Arkansas and tell us where you stand. Likely you'll refer back to the town, as other desperate posters would do. If all you have to argue which is a better job is "it's Atlanta", you're argument is weak. Otherwise, the history above would include an NC...

Basketball recruits today could care less about what teams in the 50's 60's and 70's did, heck the 80's seem ancient to most teenagers today.

That's why I made my comparison using the past 25 years that the tournament has had 64+ teams in it.

But if you take away all the history and tradtion from both programs

Arkansas has the following advantages
1.easier to get athletes qualified cuz we all know basketball players aren't the brightest bulbs
2. Recruiting grounds are a push, arkansas has some talent around the state and ties to texas st louis and memphis. G tech has atlanta
3. Easier to win a bunch of games at arkansas because you are the big fish in the SEC west
4. Facilities- arkansas is top of the line
5. No instate rival
6. More money
7. Proven that a NC is possible

Hey I'm not aggressively picking tech here, I hate tech more than anything in the world. I'm just saying that the thread, "better job", meant to me that if I'm a good head coach and have my pick of either...even though you say it's weak the Atlanta argument isn't. It's quite strong. It'd be like being a cfb coach wanting to be in Florida, Texas, or California.

So the town/city plays the major role, eh?

Standing behind that?

Better job has nothing to do with history. I personally don't feel like any job related to athletics at Georgia Tech is worth a damn as their fanbase is a joke and they don't like to spend money. I can certainly see the appeal Atlanta would have to a bball coach though. You could recruit a very good team without ever having to drive more than 45 minutes away from campus.

Then why isn't it done with consistency? Bosh and Bynum aren't walking through that door.

So, what's the deal? GT is obviously a no-brainer place to play and coach...

HELL YEAH!

Why else would Memphis continually be able to recruit some of the top kids in America to play for a C-USA school. A lot of kids from big inner cities prefer to go to college in those cities or cities similar to them.

Atlanta is VERY appealing to a 18 year old African American kid, as is Memphis, New York City (St. John's), and Philadelphia (Villanova)

That's a matter of opinion. Not everybody likes big cities and bumper to bumper traffic. I wouldn't move to Atlanta if you increased my salary fivefold. I feel the same way about any big city including Chicago, New York, Dallas, Denver, St. Louis, Miami, Oklahoma City, and many others.

Like I said...their fans suck, their facilities suck, their athletic department sucks. I think Arky is a better job. Just for different reasons than what you won 15+ years ago.
