2005 Ohio State should be in that conversation.

Great team...but playing for a tie against Arkansas that year might've cost 'em the title...they had scored late in the game, down 7, and kicked the XP instead of going for 2...knocked 'em down to #3 and put Penn State at #2 setting up a #1/#2 showdown against UGA in the Sugar...

1983 Nebraska- This is still the best team I ever saw. Ran into a buzzsaw hitting on all cylinders in Miami. Does not change my mind.

1983 Auburn- ironically, the Same year. Auburn went 11-1 and played the toughest schedule in America. Problem was you had Miami and Nebraska that season. The BEST team Auburn ever had.

2000 Miami- Loss to Washington killed the chances but they were still the best team that season. WOULD HAVE KILLED OU.

1977 Alabama- Bama best 5 team that finished in the top 20. ND jumps from 5 to 1 even though they lost to Ole Miss. This team may have been even better than the 1978 Bama team.

1971 Oklahoma- only loss was to Johnny Rodgers and Nebraska by 4 points and the difference being one punt return. OU would have demolished any other team in America.

1. 1985 State. That team was loaded-- Will Clark, Palmeiro, Thigpen, Jeff Brantley...

2011 LSU likely wins the Natty if they play any other team in the country other than Alabama.
