He played 13 NFL seasons and only busted a 50% comp percentage 6 times. He threw for more than 3,000 yards 3 times and averaged around 10 TD a year. I get it that he played in a more run friendly league, but there a re a lot of QB's during that time that had better stats.

Joe Namath was the best athlete to ever attend The University of Alabama.

I love Joe, but no. He's about the third to fourth best QB ever at Alabama.
Don Hutson, John Hannah, or Derrick Thomas are the best choices.

Out of respect for you and Mr. Dorsey , I will not make a Chaz Ramsey post and I propose a moratorium on future posts mentioning Ramsey.

He was Pennsylvania All-state in basketball: Upon graduation from high school in 1961, he received offers from several Major League Baseball teams, including the Yankees, Indians, Reds, Pirates, and Phillies and I don't need to mention what he accomplished in football. The 2nd best athlete to ever attend was Charles Cleveland...you can find out about him for yourself.

Because MLB didn't have a draft until '65. Every team invited hundreds of prospects to camps every year, all over the country.
Namath is definitely an icon

Yea, I'm not old enough but I know enough old farts in my family and read enough to know that Joe Namath pre-legs falling apart was a different animal than Joe Namath post-leg issues.
Basically anyone who watched him when he still had knees said he was as good as anybody they'd ever seen and was a better athlete than anyone they'd ever seen at QB.

Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien, and Jeff Hostetler all started in and won a Super Bowl. Brad Johnson, Nick Foles, and Joe Flacco did too. Are any of these guys Hall of Fame material or not? Maybe if they'd gotten Ike Turner drunk and wore a body length fur coat and guaranteeing a Super Bowl victory would have done it?

some of you guys are letting your disdain for Alabama -- or some of the Alabama posters cloud your judgment on Namath. Namath was awesome. His injuries went back to college. Had he been 85% healthy he'd had Marino numbers.
Namath deserves every football superlative afforded him.

I could make a argument for Kent Hull. This guy has a trophy named after him.

Alabama - Derrick Thomas

LSU - Tyrann Mathieu
Auburn - Bo Jackson

Mississippi State - Dak Prescott

South Carolina - Jadeveon Clowney
Florida - Tim Tebow
Tennessee - Reggie White
Ole Miss - Eli Manning
Not sure if you mean college or pro or combo?

Namath's about 6'1" and they said in high school, he was a dunking machine. The state of Pennsylvania is well thought of in basketball and blacks and whites played together.

Wow did Namath hang out with Ike Turner and get him drunk? or do you mean "Ike-Turner-Drunk" as in like ... "from 1 to Jim Lahey, how drunk are you?"

Ike Turner Drunk
It's being used an adjective here. For instance if someone asked if you were getting drunk tonight, and you were planning on getting absolutely hammered, you'd say "Yes, I am getting Ike Turner drunk tonight"
Hope this helps

The American Football League (AFL) All-Time Team was selected on January 14, 1970. The first and second teams were determined by a panel of members of the AFL's Hall of Fame Board of Selectors.
Joe Namath was voted 1st team Quarterback
It's interesting to know that you're an expert on football and these people aren't.

He was voted in by his drinking buddies. Got it.

Nah. From a statistical standpoint, sure. But from a "better, not even very close" standpoint, nah. YA Tittle and Bert Jones were hands down better.
Right, and this is not meant as an insult to Dak, but Tittle did very well despite playing in an era that was not very pass friendly. If he was playing today he'd likely have much higher numbers. Tittle, after all, is widely regarded as one of the greatest QBs of all time.

Missouri -- Dan Dierdorf
While Dierdorf played his pro football in the State of Missouri for the football Cardinals, he went to college at Michigan. He's still the color man on Michigan football radio broadcasts.
Not that anyone here cares about Missouri, but I'd go Kellen Winslow. Mel Gray, Roger Wherli and Chase Daniel honorable mention.

I think Derrick Thomas is probably nearly unanimous among Bama fans who know what he did.
RIP Derrick. Only Chiefs game I was able to go to while in KC was his seven sack game. Amazing. Almost as amazing was that KC somehow still managed to lose the game. Derrick was SO close to #8 on the last play of the game. LINK
