They thought no one would ever surpass their alleged GOAT team from the year before.
Well they didn't, that LSU team in a season with full stadiums and zero covid absences
Defeated 6 top 10 teams and the 3 of the top 4 teams by an average of 4 touchdowns.
They never trailed in the 4th quarter of any of those ranked games by the way
quote:
All we did in a pandemic shortened season was play 13 straight Power Five teams, 11 different SEC teams and manhandled two legendary programs in the playoffs.
Half-empty stadiums, covid absences, somehow you were the only team not to have any covid absences the whole season when Ohio State averaged like 10 a game
You only beat 6 winning teams that season, 2019 LSU beat 10, 7 of which ended the season ranked in the top 25 and they didn't trail in the 4th quarter of any of those games. Your best win was over the weakest SEC championship game opponent in the last 10 years that almost completed a comeback against you and blew a game prior by throwing a shoe in celebration
2019 LSU is the greatest team of all-time and the standard, like 2001 Miami and 1995 Nebraska was before it, deal with it

Bama won a complete joke of a season. Congrats
Truth of the matter is, if that hadn't been their last great season, they wouldn't be trying so hard to make it something other than it was.

The irony of this sentence is that it would simply just BE if LSU fans weren't constantly trying to apply their cancel culture obsession to 2020.
The better question is why did LSU fans IMMEDIATELY rush to claim it wasn't real?
You've got your cause and effect mixed up there my friend.

It's real. It's just a joke to act like it should be compared to other seasons.

Agreed, this is a case of literally attempting to compare apples to oranges and acting like 2020 was the same as all the regular, normal seasons, it's bullshite

Agreed.
If anything, what happened with Alabama in 2020 is far more impressive than what occurred in "normal" seasons.

That's a very relative opinion to try to stretch and compare to the normal seasons, doesn't mean I have to accept it or agree with it and I won't
2020 was an outlier season and quite obviously should not be compared with other seasons as if the circumstances were even remotely the same because they weren't
Whether what was accomplished that season is "far more impressive" is incredibly subjective and only meant to fit a faulty and flawed narrative

I have no problem with Bama getting that title, they won it. I just think it is absurd that Bama fans tried to say that team was better than LSU's 2019 team.

The opposite opinion is equally subjective and flawed, no?
Both were great teams and seasons for their fans. I often wonder why that simply can't be sufficient.
Most of the time it feels like that scene in Stand By Me when the boys are arguing about which fictional comic book characters would win in a fictional fight.

Full disclosure: I'm not one of those people who believes that 2020 Alabama belongs in the same galaxy as 2019 LSU much less the all-time great single-season college teams of the past. Is that homerism and some elements of bias? Probably and likely but it's also based in objective truth.
The 2020 covid season consisted of half-full stadiums or totally empty stadiums, constant player absences from games due to covid restrictions, opt-outs of entire seasons at an unprecedented scale, canceled games, etc. Somehow and questionably, Alabama was the only program without any absences the entire season due to covid whereas programs like Ohio State, etc. had 10 plus players missing due to covid each week. Ohio State only played 6 games and had 13 players missing for the national title game.
The 2020 season saw probably the weakest SEC East champion of the last 10 years play the SEC title game and a Notre Dame team that got blitzkrieged by Clemson in the ACC title game make the playoff, etc.
My stance on this season being an asterisk season which shouldn't count has softened - all the teams strapped up to play and played, Alabama won the title and deserves to count this in their trophy case as #18.
But to compare this anomaly and outlier of a season with all the circumstances and modifications to the other college football seasons as if they're the same is literally impossible because all the other seasons were fundamentally different than this season
To say what was accomplished that season is "far more impressive" than the other seasons is a subjective take because the rationale and elements can be twisted to reach the opposite conclusion
My point being, yes Alabama deserves the 2020 season and the title but it shouldn't be compared to other seasons in terms of being greater or lesser because it's literally comparing apples to oranges

So what about teams that benefited from the restrictions of earlier eras?
Should we question the mid ‘90s Nebraska dynasty because they didn’t have to play 1994 Penn State and 1997 Michigan? No conference championship or semifinal in 1995?
At least 2020 Alabama had to suit up against the best of the year.
If you take out the conference championship - a game 1995 Nebraska didn’t have to play - then 2020 Alabama wins every game by 15+ points, They already played more elite talent, as I mentioned in an earlier post.
So what gives? Why can we just assume that 1995 Nebraska would have beaten whoever by 50 pts. in a conference championship? It was the Big XII championship game the next year, mind you, when they lost to Texas as a 21 pt. favorite.
2001 Miami didn’t have to play a conference championship or semifinal. They also lucked into a bowl game against a Nebraska team that had just lost by 26 points, didn’t really deserve to be there, and that they historically matched up well against from a style standpoint.
Florida or Tennessee probably would have matched up better against the Canes and had a better chance to beat (or at least push) them.
There are plenty of teams in the GOAT conversation that didn’t exactly face a gauntlet every single week.
Now I completely agree that 2019 LSU faced perhaps the most challenging season of all time, but they are not the only team in the discussion.
Do I think 2020 Bama is the GOAT? No. Do I think they’re historically great and in the discussion? Yes. Do I think their season was as challenging (from an opponent standpoint) as many others throughout the history of CFB? Yes.

You beat a team that started their season on fricking Halloween weekend, - give me a break lmao
2020 LSU is on the worst teams the program has fielded in decades, and they won as many regular season games as your NC opponent

1995 Nebraska also only played 12 games. 2020 Bama played 13, 2019 LSU played 15, and 2025 Indiana played 16.
You people can't be serious with takes like these
Every single one of these teams played against an NC opponent having played the same amount of games...except one
Every single one of these teams played a NC opponent who started their season at the same time...except one
The funniest part is Alabama fans will sit there and argue until they're blue in the face that the 2020 season champion can stand side by side with any other champion from other season. Some will even tell you that winning the championship is even more impressive than the other seasons because of what had to be navigated for Covid
I want you to imagine a world where Ohio State beats Alabama. Are you saying a team who won a whopping 5 regular season games would seriously considered to be one of the best of teams of all time? Gtfo

2020 Alabama Beat 4 top 7 teams, only had one game all season within 1 score.
Lmao. No need for context huh?
A&M is one of those top 7 teams. They beat 1 team that finished ranked. They were 1-1 against ranked teams. And 9-0 vs unranked. Very impressive.
Florida is another. Florida finished 8-4. 8-4. Any other year outside of Covid this is a down year. You’re beating your chest beating a 8-4 team. That sure is the same thing as beating 12-2 Georgia, 12-2 Oklahoma and 14-0 Clemson lmao.
Ohio state is the 3rd of the 4. They went 6-0. Impressive.
Notre Dame is the 4th. They lost by 24 points the game before they got to play Bama in the playoffs bc it was the Covid season.
Unreal how bama fans will literally claw and drag themselves through mud to try to convince themselves this season was one of the GOATs lmao.

2020 Bama and OSU combined for seven first round draft picks and 20 overall picks the following spring. (19/20 played in the championship.) Whether they played 6 games, 12 games, or whatever, beforehand, that’s a lot of talent on the field.
That’s great dude, too bad that means dick to what I’m talking about.
Tebow is a top 5 college QB to ever play the game and the guy was a first round pick in the NFL and didn’t do a fricking thing in the league.
What in the frick does NFL draft picks have to do with anything ? Are you people even listening to yourself? Some of the best college players of all time weren’t drafted high or did dick in the league. Bama fans will literally use any obscure factoid to try to make some sort of jumbled nonsense point about 2020. Even to the point where you’re saying playing 6 games doesn’t matter?! What the frick are you talking about how can you justify it being impressive playing against a team with 6 wins for the national title? Lmao

This is an excellent and under-analyzed point.
Bama did the NCAA a massive favor decimating that Ohio state team. Do you really think everyone would have been content with a 6 win team who started their season in October claiming the national title if OSU won? You think there wouldn’t have been some questioning the entire season as a farce?
But some retard on ESPN decided to write an article 30 mins after the game ended that 2020 Bama is the GOAT , NO QUESTIONS ASKED.
The mouth breathing Alabama fans flock to it like a moth to a flame and, now, literally 6 years later, you have bama fans dragging themselves through mud trying desperately to explain to you how the 2020 season was the best of all time with 0 logical evidence to back their claim. It’s unbelievable.

They aren’t in the discussion. They aren’t even in the discussion of best national champion in the 4 year cycle. 2018 Clemson , 2019 LSU, 2021 Georgia were far more impressive in every measurable metric. And people want to put 2020 bama in the discussion of best of all time, it’s fricking ridiculous
