This is an excellent and under-analyzed point.

Bama did the NCAA a massive favor decimating that Ohio state team. Do you really think everyone would have been content with a 6 win team who started their season in October claiming the national title if OSU won? You think there wouldn’t have been some questioning the entire season as a farce?

But some retard on ESPN decided to write an article 30 mins after the game ended that 2020 Bama is the GOAT , NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

The mouth breathing Alabama fans flock to it like a moth to a flame and, now, literally 6 years later, you have bama fans dragging themselves through mud trying desperately to explain to you how the 2020 season was the best of all time with 0 logical evidence to back their claim. It’s unbelievable.

So you admit 1945 Army is the greatest of all time?

Why is a Florida fan interjecting anyway? You've never fielded a team that makes the conversation.

You do have the QB that's cried the most tears, so there is that.

Wasn't BAMA's 1945 team undefeated?

The NCAA has absolutely nothing to do with football national championships.

“Hey! No one can have an opinion on this except the teams involved bc surely the fans of their respected teams will be objective and non-bias in their opinions! “

Dude do bama fans even listen to themselves. They are the biggest fricking retards and expose themselves everytime they type something.

“Hey why do you even have an opinion on a subject about college football on a college football sports board!” Uhm because you’re objectively incorrect. Sorry I’m superior intellectually than you while the team I support is not good? Lmao what a fricking idiot

You guys show how fricking stupid you are every time you respond. Bring me better cucks to rape these people are Neanderthals

Absolutely. A 6-win Ohio State national champ would be given every asterisk possible by SECrantards, and any praise of them by OSU fans as one of the best team in CFB history would be mocked

But Bama fans were very desperate to one-up 2019 LSU. Remember Mac Jones doing his best Burrow post-natty cigar pic And this retard from ESPN Bill Connely dropping the article saying "OMG this is the best team of all time"a day after the natty was all the validation they needed

Alabama fans are the only sports who genuinely think 0 context is needed when discussing 2020 in sports. Sports fans acknowledge the context required to discuss the 60-win 2020 LA Dodgers and the 2020 Bubble Lakers. But 2020 was just a ho-hum regular CFB year to Bama fans. No context required

As an LSU fan I have no problems with it as every tea faced the same rediculous situation . It was strange season with card board fans but none the less they win it so congratulations.

Every single one of these teams played against an NC opponent having played the same amount of games...except one

So by your logic if Clemson hadn’t lost to Ohio State by three TD’s and had been in the national title game with an 11-1 record, then 2020 Bama’s claims of historic greatness would be legit because the Tigers played more games?

Am I following you?
quote:

What about how they finished it?

2001 Miami is pretty much universally in the GOAT conversation - yet they won the national title against a Nebraska team that hadn’t won a game in nearly two months.

Miami and Nebraska played on 1/3. Nebraska lost by 26 pts. to Colorado on 11/23. They had a bye on 11/17 and beat KSU on 11/10.

Miami walked on the field for the national championship game against a team they had played one game in almost two months - and that was a 26 pt. loss.

That’s ridiculous.
quote:

I want you to imagine a world where Ohio State beats Alabama. Are you saying a team who won a whopping 5 regular season games would seriously considered to be one of the best of teams of all time? Gtfo

2001 Miami’s bowl opponent wouldn’t have been on the GOAT conversation with a win either. So what’s your point?

I don’t think anyone would have disputed OSU as the national champion if they had beaten Clemson and Bama back to back. The best teams played. That’s highly questionable in the case of 2001Miami and Nebraska.

2001 Miami had one of the weakest bowl opponents - yet I don’t ever see anyone questioning it.

What in the frick does NFL draft picks have to do with anything ?

Generally a lot.
quote:

Bama fans will literally use any obscure factoid to try to make some sort of jumbled nonsense point about 2020.

I’m not a Bama fan, but arguments against their 2020 team’s historic greatness are stupid.

Bama did the NCAA a massive favor decimating that Ohio state team. Do you really think everyone would have been content with a 6 win team who started their season in October claiming the national title if OSU won? You think there wouldn’t have been some questioning the entire season as a farce?

After beating Clemson and Trevor Lawrence by three touchdowns and then beating Bama, I don’t think anyone else would have been chomping at the bit to play OSU - regardless of how many asses they kicked beforehand.

If you think that would have been controversial, then you don’t know much about the history of CFB. It thrives on controversy.

National championship teams have lost bowl games, been given extra downs, survived illegal plays, split many titles, and the world didn’t crumble.

2020 Bama comes up all the time.

Bama played by a different set of rules. Saban opted out of the SEC Championship game though.

I’m glad Aaron Rodgers called out Fauci on Mcafee’s show.

There's absolutely nothing that could happen in the 2020 CFB season that could produce to a team to be considered the "greatest in CFB history". All time talented roster? Sure. Comparing it to other championships side by side is absolutely absurd though.

This might be the most disingenuous thing I've seen posted on this board in quite some time.

I like how you worded it "Nebraska hadn't won a game in nearly 2 months" like they were playing in multiple games during that timeframe. They won their second to last game on 11/10. Had a bye week. Lost the season finale. And then there was a month and a half long gap until the BCS Championship game. Clever wording though

I can't speak for all Alabama fans, but I will say this in the here and now: I couldn't care less if 2019 LSU is an overall better team than 2020 Alabama. I don't care if all the experts in the world ranked the 2019 LSU Tigers the greatest college football team of all-time. Awesome. Fantastic. I'm happy for y'all.

All that matters to me is the trophy in the trophy case. If we win every game on our schedule by three points or less but still come away with that national championship trophy at the end of the season, that is all that matters to me. The 2020 Alabama football team won a national championship. They were a great football team. If some people want to rank them among the all-time greats, that's cool too.
