Well Alabama, your schedule is boring and people don't want to show up to watch your team beat the shite out of a no name school.

My logic is always: I only get to do this 7 times a year, so enjoy every second.

Yea, I just don't quite get it. I understand things are different, but even crappy games were better than the alternative to me 10 years ago. At least for a half or 3 qtrs. And like you said, there are only 7 of them, and you only get 4 years of it before you are in the real world and it costs money and is hard. And in my day we sucked arse.

I don't know, it's just a bit frustrating to see such total apathy.

Everybody in America plays a couple of no name schools. I wish we had a cool P5 home game every other year but that's not the issue here.

Hell, we used to drive to Bham to see shitty games at 11am.

Getting out of bed hungover and making that trek was not easy.

That’s what happens when you leave the Commonwealth to play for an inferior program. Seems like he should have stayed in his home state and played for a team people are excited about. Sad!

AU had the same issue just not as bad due to size of the student section. They were giving wristbands away begging the students who did come to sit in the lower part where the fraternities and sororities have block seating. Of course after a 2.5 hour weather delay it pretty much turned into a HS game size attendance. Only reason I stuck around is because I was getting paid 30 bucks an hour for security to sit on my arse and watch football.

If the top team in the land has students bailing, what does that say about the state of CFB in-person games?

I think it has more to do with the spoiled brat students. All they've ever known is Saban.

True, but it's endemic to many other programs as well. LSU has always had fairweather student section even when I was there in late 90's-2000's. Those football games made my weekends.....of what I remember

I don't recall a mass exodus of students at Kyle when I was there last. At all.

Wait I thought only the LSU student section left before the game ended?

The UA students never even showed up. And frankly I don’t blame them.

It happens everywhere. I will say A&M is fairly good at sticking around and watching most of the game even when it's not the best product. I can promise you our student section doesn't look anything like that at kick off. We have over 30,000 students for pretty much every game.

Yep. I’m also willing to bet that most of them are looking at their phone during the game for most of it as well. However these directional school games need to stop at fbs level. How to do that with scheduling I don’t know. Lower level p5 schools want to be Noel eligible as well they’re not going to schedule an Alabama or high level sec for oil.

The student section wasn't nearly that empty at kickoff but was certainly not full. They were streaming out in the 2nd quarter and at the half. My family and I were sitting next to the student section in the upper deck (and are probably in that photo somewhere). It was a warm day and the 11 am kickoff against a cupcake didn't help.

or simply blame the availability to watch every single game in HD from the comfort of your living room. That is the biggest reason attendance numbers are down everywhere. It isn't so much the opponents but that it's expensive to go to all of the games and, unlike the way things used to be, you don't have to attend to be able to watch your team. I'm not even that old (33), and when I was growing up, unless you were Notre Dame, you were lucky to be on TV more than 3-4 times a season. There were typically no more than 4 total games on TV every week, 1 on CBS, ESPN, ESPN 2 and JP Sports.

And as it pertains to specifically Alabama, I'm sure plenty of people are have grown bored watching blowouts, which is the majority of Alabama's games now.

The equivalent student amount showing up for bama games would be 16k
