Golding's defense at Alabama this past season finished tied for ninth nationally and second in the SEC in scoring defense (18.2 points per game). The Crimson Tide led the SEC and were fourth nationally in yards per play allowed (4.59). All four of Golding's defenses at Alabama ranked in the top 20 nationally in scoring defense.

Seems as if they’re being a bit harsh. Golding has done a fine job, especially considering the innovations made on offense in recent years.

He is probably an improvement for you guys and he’s a great recruiter. Win/Win imo

Alabama was #2 in the SEC in points allowed per game….

The odds are not in Bama’s favor that this stat will improve - there’s mostly room to just go down.

They’re comparing him to Kirby and I get the frustration with him. But he’s a great recruiter and a big upgrade over what we have had the last decade. Both parties win in this situation

“All four of Golding's defenses at Alabama ranked in the top 20 nationally in scoring defense.”

5 of Kirby’s ranked in the top 5. Three finished number one.
Both of Pruitts ranked in the top 5.

He shite the bed against any team with a pulse this year. What Hyatt did to them should have been a friable offense

Stats are nice and all that, but the proof of Pete’s suckage is…what did you do when the game was on the line? Did you get that critical stop on 3rd or 4th down that could’ve won a game?

His defenses consistently did not. Over and over and over.

“Alabama was #2 in the SEC in points allowed per game…. “

Now do 4th qtr points allowed. Get ready to watch 21 point leads disappear and KNOWING that if the opponent gets the ball back with at least 30 seconds left in the game they are gonna hit two 30 yd pass plays and kick the winning fg. If there is a minute left they will go 90 yds and score a TD. If it’s a close game in the 4th you will lose.

And neither one of them are walking through the door, so it’s a pointless comparison.

You keep repeating this as if Kirby is the only DC Saban has ever had.

You do realize that Golding did not follow Kirby, he followed Pruitt, right?

This.

Imagine a player like Will Anderson under them. He would have been the beast he was supposed to be. In reality, Golding had him dropping back in coverage instead of rushing the QB. Those stats are a product of averages. Feasted on weak competition and famined on stronger teams. As someone said early, he should have been shown the door after Tennessee.

Only watched one whole Alabama game this season. The one I watched, one wide receiver for the other team had 5 touchdowns. That by itself should be grounds for dismissal and you don't need to know anything else imo.

When you see all those delayed blitzes he draws up with your best pass rusher dropping into coverage you will see what we are talking about.

I do. Kirby is the most successful one out of those two

I have no doubt he, like most DCs, made many boneheaded calls. But again, he had the #2 defense in the league allowing the 2nd fewest points per game.

There’s mostly nowhere to go but down.

And that’s the difference in Bama. #2 isn’t good enough.
