Sure, 2016 broke down against Watson but he is/was a million times more talented and dangerous than Gino Torretta. I watched both and although I loved George Teague, I think that consecutive games with a defensive TD streak was incredibly impressive. What say you?
Agree completely. Like another poster said: because of the loss in the NC it taints their record. Clemson scored on 1 of its first 10 possessions, then 4 of the last 7, including the last 2. Though Bama scored 31 points, it was misleading in terms of TOP. Bama had 14 of 16 possessions less than 2:00, 10 < 1:36. The 2 "long drives" were 3:56 and ~2:31. That's incredible. How they held up as long as they did was amazing. They just ran out of gas. Clemson had 17 possessions and 99 plays. Usually Bama gave 11-13 possessions and 63 plays. Part of that is to Clemson's credit, but most of it is due to Bama's pathetic offensive consistency.

It's a pity that history won't show them in their true light. '11 was great too, but conversely a bit overrated because of the offenses they faced.

Had Jalen Hurts and Steve Sarkisian not collectively left them to die

So Saban has no culpability for not being able to shut down Watson regardless?

Or is it all the players’ fault? If so, what good is Saban for other than circling the REC wagons for player acquisition?

Last I checked, Saban was still a coach and not a “booster club organizer”.

1961

The 61' team allowed 25 pts the whole season. I would rank 2011, 1992, then 2012 after that.

The offense leaving the defense out to dry against Clemson was much like LSU against us in '11. Their defense fought valiantly until finally the dam burst.

I'm not sure which one was better but that play the Alabama player made running down the Miami player and taking the ball from him was awesome as heck. It was even better coming against the Canes, who were very unlikeable in those days.

The great George Teague. Lamar Thomas sat on the sideline with a towel over his head after that

Almost no one sleeps on that 2011 defense. They’re definitely more overrated then underrated.

Ummm, I think your still wrong on the 2012 Alabama defense because as good as that 12 D was, the 2011 Alabama defense was probably the best defense I have ever seen.Nobody that entire year hardly did shite on that D. I think the most points scored on them that year was 21.

That 2011 defense also played absolute garbage offenses all year long.

92 was one of the best defenses ever. Bama won on the back of that defense. Offense was good but not explosive

2004 Auburn’s defense allowed >20 points once all season.

While true, Bama's '92 D gave up 21 twice while AU's '04 D gave up 20 & 28...also, Bama only allowed 3 teams all season to score more than 11 points while 6 teams scored more than that against AU's D...that means 10 teams scored 11 or less against Bama, with 3 being shutouts...

Bama gave up 13 TDs for the '92 season, including the bowl game...of those, one was a punt return and one was a pick 6...two more of those TDs were on drives of 11 and 3 yards after turnovers. Only 4 TDs were on drives of longer than 53 yards (82, 77, 68, and 68)...the longest of those came in garbage time of a blowout against the second team D...two came against Florida in the SECCG...

I guess you have a point there. Other than Arky that year they really didn't play any high powered offenses.
