Nick Saban is a very successful- BUT VERY CONSERVATIVE- head coach.

our OT record is sad. I think 4-8 now.

The ones that stand out that we won were Tennessee in 09 and Arkansas in 07. But we really suck in overtime. Everyone in the stadium knew Bama would lose in overtime.
I was re-watching the game on DVR, and I noticed the stat CBS put up after the OT coin toss. LSU was 7-5 in OT, and Alabama was 4-7. Of course that's 8-5 and 4-8 respectively now.
So LSU and Alabama are 1-1 against each other in OT?

2-1 LSU.
Was it '06 that LSU beat both Alabama and Auburn in OT?

You're right, I forgot about the 16-13 win in 2005. LSU also beat Auburn in OT 20-17 that year.

as a close game gets into the 4th qtr, sabans spinchter tightens like a noose around his players' necks choking the win out of them.

Wouldn't be a problem if they would get their heads out of his arse.

LSU players seemingly play to win.
This year both teams played not to lose. When that happens a play or two here or there can mean the difference.
Miles didn't do anything out of the ordinary to win that game. No trick plays or crazy arse decision that we have grown accustom to.

Saban was unbeatable in OT when he was at LSU... good things just happen to good ppl
LSU people= good
Bama people = not good
LSU people= good
Bama people = not good

He didn't need to. He just psyched Nick into trying to be Miles.

Even in '09 when completely outclassed, Peterson made a great play to turn that puppy around but the officials choked. Les does coach his players to go make plays and generally speaking, they do and they win. Saban is a great coach but we know from when he was here that he can create added tension for the team.

Win over Arkansas and McFadden in 2007 was a nice close win with a TD pass at the end of the game.

Could be this.
Miles trusts his players and they know it so they respond.
Saban doesn't trust his players and they realize it so they choke up.
Sort of the self-fulfilling prophecy sort of thing.

It's the grass; of the fescue or of the synthetic variety.

And that's an area, though I am critical of many parts of the Saban personality and "process", where we had different experiences with him as HC - he was 3-0 in OT while at LSU. Miles is a pedestrian 5-4 in OT at LSU (almost 25% of his losses are OT, though, so I guess he's keeping them close).
He leads Bama to more blowout wins than he did at LSU, too.

You are making a legitimate point. I have always thought his teams are afraid to make a mistake and thus play tight in close games.
He is a great football coach but, this seems to be his weakness.
