But won't that mean all of the GOOD coaches will be signed to new multi-year contracts with new schools?

He's gonna frick around and end up upsetting Bama in Jordan-Hare which will lead to a huge raise and extension only for him to be fired the following season.

Are there going to be some big program building coaches born between this year and next that aren’t already out there?
Other than potentially Franklin, there are no big program building coaches currently available this year.

quote:Yeah, by waiting they're now in a position where they almost have to keep Hugh another season. That said, fans and boosters better be ready to write some mega checks to retain the roster. It won't be a cheap sell.
By not firing their coach, Auburn is almost guaranteed to have the best SEC coaching job the next offseason. Bravo barn

Maybe they want to reboot the roster

Nah, there is always a new hot candidate every year

When the Vandy gang, by way of New Mexico State, comes of JHS after embarrassing Freeze for a 3rd straight year, he will be shown the door.

Smart thing is for Auburn to revamp offensive Coaching and keep Freeze. Hit portal hard. They ought to be in good shape on NIL if they don't have to hire a new Head Coach or give him a big raise.

The roster, outside of QB and a couple OTs, is fine. Hew has just whiffed, bigly, on those for 3 years.
Spend the money to retain most of the young talent and get a new coach in there to evaluate and get a portal QB and it is set up as good as anyone else right now.
Now that assumes Durkin and most of the defense is still on board. But that is the perfect scenario. Because Freeze does have the talent there vs when he walked into the job.

A simple non biased view to me..take a look at the team, then zoom out to 10,000 feet above.
Freeze's teams remind me a lot of the Shula teams. They put up a fight and are in almost every game until late in the fourth. The offense is putrid but the defense is stout.
My concern would be what happens when Durkin leaves...

Unless it is another DC job, Durkin is too toxic for an HC job, after his stint at Maryland. I do see your point..but Freeze did have/ develop good to great QBs at Ole Miss, and Liberty. Again, he has missed badly at Auburn so far...but the roster is good everywhere else...I'd give him one more year to get it right...and measure that against the backdrop (reality) of the current buyer's market of good coaches available vs the openings at major schools..heck..even OU may open up, possibly Clemson, and the ripple effect on the other school openings.

they've had some crazy bad breaks / luck and really tough losses,
AU even got an officating crew fired for bad biased performance. How rare is that.
