That team, outside of Cam and Fairley, was arse cheeks.
There were 22 Seniors on that team to complement underclassmen Cam and Fairley. And they were solid players (just below NFL talent line) with intangibles like chemistry, leadership, etc. People forget that. It wasn't just Cam, he had a lot of leadership and experience surrounding him.
It's a good example - perhaps exception - of a team that is not loaded with 5 stars or NFL prospects running the gauntlet to a NC. Not sure you could do that now in a modern playoff though.

This is going to be how it is for 90%+ of Power 5 programs much of the time. A handful of programs dumping pro football money on spoiled kids . Everyone else loses players every year in the hopes of finding a team that will have a lucky year to increase the NFL chances. Its not college football anymore. Its more akin to baseball, and there’s no Moneyball tactics that will help find missing gems. There’s a reason that the old elite schools eliminated athletic scholarships before WW II. The football programs were making a mockery of the “college” in college football. The rest of colleges are there now, with mercenaries jumping to the highest bidder every year. These “students “ don't give a damn about school, getting an education , or things like school spirit. You wont see them at alumni gatherings in 20 years. Its just a job to them.

Good to see you’ve finally arrived at acceptance.

That offense worked so well because the offensive line was a very good veteran group. It was one of the best offensive lines in the last 25 years at Auburn. Darvin Adams was an awesome college receiver. Michael Dyer and Onterio McCalebb were a very good RB duo.

quote:Same here. I have some good Auburn friends including my brother in law. They're going back and forth from anger to apathy. It genuinely sucks for them.
While it’s easy to say frick Auburn, I know many good Auburn fans who I do hate it for.
It’s not going to get any better.

That's fair, considering that the OP isn't an Auburn fan.

If what you're posting is in fact taking place, Auburn won't be wandering in the desert. They will be marooned on an desolate island with no hope of return.
Like one Bama poster has said, I hate it for the reasonable Auburn fans.
