It's the same for UF. I can beat my chest about how great a school it is academically but I imagine most people in the northeast or out west can't distinguish UF from FSU academically.

You’re an agricultural college in Alabama. No one sees Auburn as a scholastic powerhouse outside of Alabama lol. Also, fairly certain than U. Alabama has a superior law school (Barnbillies don’t have one), business school, and in every academic discipline that defines civilization (history, literature, art, philosophy, theology, etc.).
The only people attending Auburn from superior states (FL, GA, TX, NC, VA, etc.) are those rejected from their state flagships.
I work with a couple of top PE firms in Birmingham, they’re all Bama and Vandy grads. Auburn produces the occasional engineer who makes $120k … which I suppose is an accomplishment in most of Alabama.

Bama's standards and academic reputation have climbed since 07 but they were closer to Ole Miss standards then.
So while they have closed the gap there is still enough gap for Auburn to still lead.
And personally I would expect Agricultural and Tech schools to fare better.
More Stem focused.

This may come as a shock to an ag institution, but many students major in intellectually ennobling “soft” subjects like history and philosophy, and then proceed to careers in law, finance, business, medicine, etc.
Understanding world history and fully exercising the English language, for example, are fairly good predictors of life success. I don’t think you’ll find too many purple haired baristas with nose rings coming out of U. Alabama, regardless of their major.

Auburn knew their academic program would never resemble an Ivy League school. So they decided to make their athletic program resemble an Ivy League school.

Many may find success after graduate school in a different field.
Most turn out to be baristas and mail carriers or even less, leeches, however.
