At least make the bowls into playoff games

This sounds good until you realize you travel from Shreveport to Myrtle Beach in rounds 1 and 2 and teams start tanking near and of season so they can grab the Hawaii Bowl.

Bowls are dead. Teams and players will opt out. Its playoffs or nothing now. And the regular season just got lame. There are not 24 teams capable of winning a championship.

Yea..bowls are way dead if not a playoff game. It is basically an NFL preseason game now. Literslly means nothing.

it will keep more fans of more teams intersted longer into the year

I think it sucks; but it will enhance fan interest across the board

If it was still a four team playoff, how would you decide who’s in? Two super conferences, two conferences with maybe one team worthy and ND. So the Big 10 winner, the SEC winner, Miami with maybe one top ten win and ND or the Texas Tech/BYI/Utah winner. Do you think those are the best four teams in the country?

The landscape has changed dramatically. There aren’t any teams like Bama in the teens and early twenties or Georgia from 21-23.

The conference commissioners and tv execs decided they wanted super conferences. Expanded playoffs had to come after that, or you’re penalizing the fanbases that invest the most and give you the ratings all year.

You can’t expect teams to be undefeated or have one loss in the big conferences as a minimum to make the playoffs. 16 seems like the sweet spot, 4 is definitely too small the way the conferences are currently aligned. That will never return.

Agreed.

BYEs are so stupid in a subjective ranking.

8 home games > 4 rotating bowls > 2 rotating bowls > rotating championship

No byes, no autoqualifiers.

Because ratings haven't gone down enough. They want to completely kill the sport that we grew up loving. So they can then start filling the stands with new fans that look different.

because you can tell your fans "we made the playoffs!"

Also, teams can put a banner up in their stadium.

Best thing about it to me is it should keep a bunch of players from opting out of postseason. No way you opt out if you have a chance to win it all.

And it will be great having meaning ful football games early to mid Dec.
Im all for 24. Love it. And it give teams like SC, AR, Ky ect a chance to get in on good year.

Couple reasons;

bowls/lack thereof going forward. We used to have more than 12 relevant bowls (24 teams) even when there weren't a lot. Maybe not playing for a national title, but there were years the winner of the Gator or Peach, etc, you thought might be able to beat the winner of the Orange, for example.

The bowls are dead, and will be gone soon, at least for the P4 teams. If you don't make the playoffs you will opt out.

24 over 16- the polls. They always did Top 20, then it shifted a couple decades ago to Top 25. There's over 100 teams, people generally consider being ranked to be a thing. This lets almost every ranked team get into the postseason.

People will view the playoffs like they did the bowls; teams like Arkansas (Ole Miss, Kentucky etc) will want to make the playoffs. Teams like LSU and Georgia will want to win a couple rounds. Teams like Alabama and Ohio State will be disappointed if they don't make the finals, or win it all.
*That's a generalization of team selections, based on history. Alabama is now fading, but even a few years ago them losing in the first or second round would be unacceptable to their fans. *

You have to account for the portal and it's effect on the season. LSU this season is the perfect example. I'm an LSU fan, but am trying to be objective here.
LSU lost a couple early games, and may drop another (we still have 3 ranked opponents left). Joel Klatt predicts LSU will still get into the playoffs at 9-3... and if they get in, they could easily make a run. That's not me being a homer- LSU in my opinion could beat any team in the country, could blow almost anyone out (could also lose). If they got in at 9-3, that's not a cupcake that Ohio State wants to see.

There will be other teams in the future like that. A team that stumbles early as they come together, but that you want no piece of by the end of the year.

I just want to have conf. champs ONLY in the Natt p/o.

WHY should we reward placing 3-5 in a conference with the highest award?

4 teams is ideal...makes the regular season fricking matter. Now you can go 8-4 and still get in.

Why would anyone team 8-4 be worthy? Look at this one and a 8-4 might be able to beat a top team any given week.

24 is lunacy.

The joy of upset weekends like the last two weekends just won’t happen with a 24 team slate

I was good with the current system as long as they got rid of the DEI bid for teams like Tulane. That would've given that last deserving team a spot with 3 losses that just had an intense schedule and a few calls didn't go their way.

It's the equivalent of everyone getting a trophy. That's where we are in college football in 2026. All part of the pussification of America.
