Its the only thing that is going to keep donors donating...and its good for probably 5 years and then the carnival hucksters are going to have to come up with something else to keep the marks reaching for their wallet. Long cons have a shelf life of about 4-6 years historically and CFB has been at it about 4 years now and will have about 4-6 with the 24 team playoff and then they are going to have to come up with a new twist on the old game. Its unsustainable and eventually Dr, Pepper and Progressive Insurance is going to realize that their endless commercials playing on TVs in bars and restaurants where patrons are paying almost no attention are not worth the money.

The whole system is smoke and mirrors that provide background noise for the majority of "fans" on fall Saturdays. Eventually people with the means to pay a high school kid who has not played a single snap in college millions of dollars are going to either not pay or they are going to insist on access beyond good seats at games. That access is going to eventually result in a gambling scandal that makes the NBA look legitimate. The table is set with multiple upsets each week and horrendous officiating in every game that is accepted because it is so common. There is almost zero chance that gambling hasn't influenced college football for years and even less chance that its doing so now at a level never before seen and will get worse. Texas Tech seriously trying to roster a known degenerate gambler was a blazing and loud warning signal that went largely un-noticed...it almost happened. It should have never even been close. That's where CFB is.

No good reason. We usually got two bad games with only four teams.

Well here is how I see it.
Lets take the SEC for example. You have multiple teams that could beat anyone in the country.
Ole Miss
Florida
Alabama
Texas
Georgia
Tenn
LSU
UK
Also these teams could lose to anyone that is playoff worthy
Going 24 allows the field performance dictate who wins and not guys in a conference room deciding who makes it in.
Notre Dame for example last year, could have beat, AM/JMU/TU/Texas Tech/ Alabama/Oklahoma
Didnt make it in

16 to 8 to 4 to championship, no BYE
Agreed.
BYEs are so stupid in a subjective ranking.
8 home games > 4 rotating bowls > 2 rotating bowls > rotating championship
No byes, no autoqualifiers.

It's still going to bear out most years that one of the Top 4 wins it all. There might be an outlier a time or two each decade.
They’ve had a 12 team playoff for 2 years. Of the four teams in the finals, there has been a 7, 8, and 10 seed. Indiana was the outlier

In the first year UGA was in the playoff after a physical game in the SEC CG where their starting QB was injured and did not play in the playoff game. Almost the same situation that kept FSU out of the playoffs 2 years prior. Last season UGA played 10 SEC teams and Ole Miss played 9...neither made the final. Its going to be that or worse with 24 teams except for the ending of the SEC CG. The teams that have made it to the final had played 1-2 games during the season and a beat up and damaged SEC team in the playoffs - and that is the future if it is 12, 24 or 124 teams.

I like 24 because teams like Tulane or James Madison can lose one game and still make it in. Also with a bye these teams have a better shot at winning a playoff game, and it rewards the top teams with a bye right after rivalry week. I would also begin the playoff immediately after the last week of the regular season so the championship game could be played on New Years Day.
If you go to 16 it basically forces the teams in the non power conferences to go undefeated, unless you put in exceptions for them like we have now. I think there should be no exceptions for them or Notre Dame.

Yes let's go back to the BCS, by all means.

At least make the bowls into playoff games . Problem with that is taking the on campus playoffs away.
I don’t think anyone cares about the Bowl locations, but ABC/ESPN definitely care about replacing those games on the TV schedule with games that matter.

The advantage of having 24 is it allows you to play bigger games during the regular season without costing you a shot at the playoffs.
Sounds like communism. Sounds okay in theory but never works out.
