That was too bad for Texas and Baylor. He should have taken the Texas job.

Was that before or after he tried to cover up his players gangrapings?

After the 2014 season. Losing to UCF in the bowl game made him pull out of the Texas HC job.

Sounds like a perfect match for Austin.

I heard art was the fall guy and the whole story was actually blown out of proportion and a lot of the most outlandish stuff like setting up gangbangs was not true or at least the coaches had no knowledge of it. But I honestly don’t know this was from a Texas high school coach I knew who might’ve just been buddies with briles

we dodged a bullet...which is rare for us because we so often make terrible hires at that position.

Next to the Penn State train wreck, that was about as bad as it gets.

You may have missed the part where I point out our history of hiring terrible coaches. He was one of them.

It was still better than dealing with the fallout after the baylor shite came out a few years later. We would have had to fire him 2 years after the hire. Glad we avoided that. The chris beard shite was bad enough.

Baylor has a long history of horror on that campus.

Back in March 2001 there was a feral cat named Queso that hung out by the Taco Cabana (hence the name) two of their baseball players shot the cat with a pellet gun, hit it with a golf club and ultimately decapitated it and skinned it.

Two years later in 2003 Baylor basketball player Carlton Dotson murdered teammate Patrick Dennehy

Obviously you all are aware of the 2016 sexual assault lawsuit that led to Ken Starr and Art Briles exile.

I'm not saying Art Briles is a good person far from it but not being at that toxic shitbox arse university would have probably been a pretty good career move for him. I doubt he was encouraging his players to rape coeds as much as turned a blind eye JoePa style which is still evil...

Name me one other school where they have such major frickups in all 3 sports. It's always the religious freakazoids who melt down when they get away from their oppressive homes.

If you’ve read the follow up from yesterday after he said all this, everyone is saying with the correct version is of that story.

Texas wanted him to interview and Art said he will not interview and he’s either the coach or he’s not. He wouldn’t even agree to sit down to talk.

They called him one more time after the Fiesta Bowl trying to schedule an interview and he said if he has to interview he’s staying, and stayed

It does bring a smile to my face to know Briles gave the hirns the finger.

Ironically, horn hire Charlie Strong came in with the program ethos of "Core Values". An attempt to instill into the football players the concept they shouldn't pimp slap their girlfriends.

Two years before.

But why would Art back out after losing a bowl game? Something seems off.

Didn't horns consider and get rejected by 5 candidates before taking Strong out of desperation? If so, not so strange.

I am not a big cigar guy but I am friends with someone who was well-connected when DeLoss Dodds was calling the shots. Per my friend, Texas very much wanted to hire Briles. I was told that he was also interested but Briles refused to interview for the position. He just wanted an offer and for that to be that.

The scandal would have been terrible, but since the sins were commiteed at Baylor, I would have preferred that we hired Briles and dealt with the scandal. Briles would have at least brought in an o-line that was functional and top tier offensive talent. Charlie Strong was the worst thing to ever happen to our program.

I’m not trying to say Baylor doesn’t have a sloppy history, but connecting dots to Briles from baseball players torturing a feral cat over a decade prior is something.
