Played 5 of the 8 teams and went 10-3.
What a waste.

I would be bitter too. But I’ve been a bitter baseball fan my entire life. Casualty of being a Braves fan and Alabama baseball fan.

Arkansas did well having 1.5 starting pitching for most of the year.
DVH was SEC coach of the year for a reason.

At least you have a World Series. I’m a Texas Rangers fan, who also was an inning away from a World Series. I’ve realized it just isn’t in the cards for me as a Hog fan.

You can have our 2 baseball titles if you give us a basketball or football?

It usually happens when you least expect it.
This team wasn't seriously going to win it with issues of the bullpen being ranked number one or not.

Agreed. Life is unfair and sports is a great teacher.

Meh, Vermillion, Paulette and Lockhart started the year great and Kopps didn't even get going until mid-season. Even then Kopps was just used as a closer for most of the year.
I don't know if Arkansas could have won the whole shebang or not with the pitching we have, but it got us to #1 and I think it hurt that we gave up on some guys. Rather than fix the problems, it seems we narrowed our options until we ran out and just started using our bats to make up the difference. Our bats were spectacular, but that's always a losing formula.

It was a good team but didn't have deep enough pitching to win it all. It felt like the way Kopps was used that DVH had no confidence in the other pitchers and Arkansas was on borrowed time.

Watching Arkansas baseball this year was like watching the first two rocky movies.
They won 10 SEC series but were not dominant in doing so. A lot of close series victories that were decided by rubber matches.
Sometimes Arkansas would outlast opponents in a marathon but NCST won the race in the end.

9th place is still really good. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Which is weird, because at the start we were told that we were deep. We reached #1, and defended the #1 spot for a while, before Kopps or Wicklander had even pitched much. I'm not criticizing the amazing years those two had, but I just don't think the rest of the staff was utilized well.
DVH should have saved Kopps for Omaha more than he did. That wouldn't have helped with the real problem with our bats, but maybe they wouldn't have felt like we were on borrowed time so much and hit better?
The disappearing bats is the big mystery for me, because while that's a common theme in the postseason, our bats had faced the best all year without fading much.

What about Tole? When DVH actually let him pitch, he fricking dominated. Tole is a damn fine pitcher, but DVH has his favorites, and they always get precedence.

Tennessee would know. Actually they wouldnt. 9th place would be considered the gold standard of Tennessee baseball and will be again after this year.
