It was a good team but didn't have deep enough pitching to win it all. It felt like the way Kopps was used that DVH had no confidence in the other pitchers and Arkansas was on borrowed time.

This is exactly what I said weeks ago.

Winning game 1 by a record margin and losing game 2 and game 3 by one run each was one of the most Arkansas things ever.

Also, it's funny how many fans who got offended anytime the Hog's greatness was questioned are now acting like they knew the team was fatally flawed all along.

The 1989 State team was like this year’s Arkansas’ team. We were loaded, won the SEC that year and went into the Regional with a 51-12 record. We were upset by NC and finished the season 54-14 and did not make it to Omaha.

That team was absolutely loaded across the board but in the six team regional we were upset 2-1 in the third game by NC and fell in to the losers bracket.
We battled back and beat NC once to force a second game but they beat us in the final game. It was heartbreaking and devastating.

NCST was preseason top 15 just like Arkansas. But had a bad start in the ACC.

I knew this team didn't have enough to win it all but was very much surprised that they played as good as they did.

This Arkansas team is solid with players that are upperclassmen and are good college baseball players. But they aren't loaded with players that will be very high draft prospects.

The 2018 and 2019 teams were more talented but didn't quite reach the peak of development until the postseason.

Meh, Vermillion, Paulette and Lockhart started the year great

Stop right there. The only way Vermillion gets a strike with a fastball is by randomly nicking the very top of the zone with it.

Here's Christian Franklin as an effective hitter in 2019 working away (his best approach that was abandoned this year). Swinging a real BBCOR with some mass in the barrel (Beast X Hybrid)

...and here's 2021 Pull-Happy, Seperate/Elevate Everything Christian Franklin... stronger and faster but toting an ultra-balanced hand loaded Maxum 360 ideal for lightweight contact hitters and High School underclassmen

Choking up on any 2-Strike counts sold separately and not included.
Franklin is an outstanding baseball prospect who somehow ended up with a horrible approach at the plate by midway thru the 2021 season. Couldn't get to ANYTHING up and in the outer third of the zone to save his life.

Where's the coaching and development? It's just like Casey Martin... a player more dangerous in his underclass years swinging a one-piece alloy, then getting yoked and transitioning to a lightweight twig of a bat he couldn't go oppo with if he tried.

I don't see how Arkansas was told they had a deep pitching staff with the pitching struggles of 2020 and going into this year having question marks for the Friday night starter.

Arkansas was picked third in the west because of those issues.

We reached number one because the bats averaged close to eight runs a game in SEC play and the pitching didn't bottom out except the 16-1 to Bama.

It was disappointing that the rest of the pitching didn't develop like they usually do under DVH. It felt like Kopps or bust.

Arkansas needed someone besides Kopps to win against NCST. But I think if anyone besides Kopps was used then NCST would had much more success with the bats. The game might have been out of reach.

It wasn't like the bats didn't try, it is just NCST had a lot to do with those frustrations. They were ranked on the same level as Arkansas before the season started.

Tennessee would know. Actually they wouldnt. 9th place would be considered the gold standard of Tennessee baseball and will be again after this year.

God help Arky fans if Tennessee becomes a national championship winning baseball program this year, officially putting Arkansas beneath us in that sport. It'll happen sooner or later with Vitello.

It could very well happen this year... won't be surprised if you guys do it.

I'm sorta rooting for Stanford or AZ, but if Tenner is still around late next week when I'm at the games I'll find a real Vol baseball fan and buy that guy a beer.
You guys could spend the money on facilities and keep Vitello around for his career, and be an absolute force. Someone with the purse strings just has to have the vision.

Tennessee has always been capable of being great at baseball. We just needed someone with swagger like Vitello to wake the university up to this reality. Very underrated baseball state that seeps elite HS talent. Only state with two programs in the CWS this year.

Sometimes it just does not happen. I am an ardent LSU fan, but Arkansas Baseball was a thing of beauty in 2021. It just came apart against 2 NC State pitchers.

I thought LSU 2013 was gonna win a NC, but a generationally good LSU player who played perfectly most of the time made a crucial error that cost LSU its chance that year. Crap happens.

its so weird seeing Arkansas fans say they didnt have enough pitching to win it all. yall won every SEC series this year. you absolutely had the pitching and the hitting.

Its also just baseball, it happens that you lost 2 when you couldnt afford to.

yall definitely had the team that was very capable of doing it, and probably should have

When you expand a playoff it cheapens it because the clear cut best team is at a disadvantage. Expect this to be the new norm in college football, where a team that was the best in its conference and a clear cut best team in the country doesn’t play for a title.
