Reading that old post .... funny all the Bama fans trolling errrrrr telling Hog fans that he is going to be a great hire!

Not saying he is the next Saban, but Saban only went 19-16-1 in his first 3 seasons at Michigan St. He did, however, go 9-2 in his fifth and final season before going to LSU; but in terms of record that was the only one that really stood out. All of this is to say that even good coaches sometimes don't have stellar records depending on the stage of their career and the program they are at. Its hard to fault Arky for not being at least a little optimistic about their new coach. I also have not seen any of them say he is the next great coach, they seem to think he can just take them back to 8-4 type seasons with the occasional 9 or 10 win season.

UCF also went 12-1 2 years before 0-12. The team wasn't bad and the roster was in good shape. George O'Leary just stopped giving a shite and then so did the players.

UCF's 0-12 was b/c George O'Leary got talked out of retiring. UCF was 10-4 (7-1), 12-1 (8-0), 9-4 (7-1) in the three years before they went 0-12. They didn't fall off b/c they lacked talent. They went 0-12 b/c they were coached by a tired old man who had mentally checked out and was only there b/c UCF wasn't prepared to hire a new HC when O'Leary wanted to retire.

Meanwhile, at SMU June Jones basically stopped giving a shite once Arizona State yanked a contract out from under him and even then he was lazy as frick when it came to recruiting. He refused to leave the SMU campus to recruit DFW high schools instead preferring players to prove they were interested by contacting SMU on their own. He actively avoided any kids who had interest in bigger schools believing there was no point trying to land them. His best players weren't even guys he really had to recruit. He was already friends with Garrett Gilbert's father when GG transferred out of Texas, Margus Hunt was already on campus for Olympic sports, and Cole Beasley had already committed to SMU under Phil Bennett before June was hired. SMU's last 3 seasons under June they went 7-6 (5-3), 5-7 (4-4), and 1-11 (1-7). Their 1-11 was 100% b/c their talent level had been decimated by a lazy HC.

I think they need to worry about the pics floating around out there.

SMU was a mess before he got there. It will take time to figure out if it was a good hire or not. It does tickle me that Gus didn't take his "dream job", so they went and hired Gus Light.

I think Morris will find talent soon to create a winning environment. Not sure that it will win West titles, but it will be better than the "grind it to snore" ball, last place ball they've been playing. They'll bring in Texas talent which will immediately improve the Hogs! I'd disregard his record...same as I'd disregard Bret's inflated "for Alvarez" record prior to Arkansas...he was terrible!!!
