Arkansas historically has never had to depend on Arkansas talent as it isn't enough but are surrounded by much larger states with more division one talent. It is very competitive in those states but NIL gives Arkansas an opportunity to get players to Fayetteville where they never considered a visit in the past. A lot of recruits were shocked at how nice the area was in the past when they visited.

I wish the Waltons were more into Arkansas athletics. Like it’s nice having state of art museums and bike trails but I’m trying to win SEC Championships baw

I went to the Crystal Bridges Museum and I was bored. I don't care for bike trails because I carry too much belly for that type of excitement. Stuff like that doesn't connect well with the average Arkansan but the Razorbacks do.

I'm happy that the Hunts are stepping up to the plate as they are true hog fans but others need to step up because it will increasingly become very competitive.

By handling it this way, there is a PR aspect publicly and makes the "buying of college athletes" much more palatable. Plus the tax savings to boot.

Yep. This makes it out to be far more of a Make a Wish type organization (even if it's just disguised as paying players), but at least billionaire donors like, potentially the Waltons, Tyson, or Jerry Jones, can write off the investment and at least know that some good is going to come of it.

By such a prominent family getting involved as well, that means connections to other filthy rich folks and the program can sell networking for the athletes, as well as the money.

How many 18-22 yr olds year olds can get face to face meetings with the Hunt family? Welp, one just did. His name is JD Notae.

This is potentially game changing for Arkansas because no other states, except Texas can offer the same kind of access to such prominent fortune 500 CEOs and owners. This is basically the equivalent of what Oregon has been selling their kids as it pertains to Nike.

I guarantee you they make every big time athlete believe they will have a job with Nike if they don't go pro in their respective sport.

Now, Arkansas can sell the same thing, especially if the one of the other prominent Arkansas families gets involved.

Arkansas billionaires have created an NIL fund

These wealthy individuals are not the only ones. Arkansas has great fan support from many in the Little Rock area and across the state.

The fanbase for Arkansas is extremely loyal from my observations and admirable, they actually are at the top for national championships in the SEC. Most of their championships are not the big 3 but plenty of titles.

These are the new local car dealers.

Be interesting to see how money to players balances money to schools.

Also the flow of power and decision making.

That is great to hear. Now you shouldn't have an excuse not to get a top 10 recruiting class. I like the charity work they will be doing unlike A&M. Those clowns will clock in at the family YMCA and workout.

We don't have to have top 10 recruiting classes; we'll just take your best players in the portal. Oklahoma been giving away a lot of great talent lately.

Walmart won't be involved in this and not because they don't care about sports but because they have stores in every state in the US. They are already getting slammed by Amazon and other online shopping. They're not going to alienate customers in other states, especially in the South, where football allegiance is a real thing.

Kind of like Nike has alienated all fans other than Oregon Duck fans? Get real.

One Walton is worth like 20 Johnelle Hunts and 7 Jerry Joneses.

Stupid, ridiculous money.

This is exactly the Byrd Foundation from the tv series Ozark. Marty Byrd (or Hunt or Tyson or Walton) are just washing money through this foundation. No doubt there is a Ruth Langmore - like person running strippers up to Fayetteville. As Omar Little said to the prosecuter in his trial testimony on the Wire: "You got a briefcase. I got a shotgun. It's all in the game."

We get that you are very upset, for whatever reason, that Arkansas is doing this, but maybe you need to take a time out. I'm starting to get worried you are going to stroke out on this one.

As to the University's relationship with our Fortune 500 companies... Most of them are within spitting distance of the actual campus and the other has maintained close ties to the U of A for decades. 4 Fortune 500 companies with close ties to a school trumps 25 who might be in the same state but have comparatively little to do with that school.

Yes, I know... we have more Fortune 500!

But Arkansas has an unusually close relationship with the major companies in state. It is why, despite being in a low population state with some severely economically depressed areas, the University of Arkansas has never lacked for funds when it comes to upgrades and new building on campus.

Should just go to a NIL salary cap

Hate to say it but that's a surefire way to get the NCAA in a lot of trouble. The only reason that works in the NFL is because the player's union and the teams make a deal that the players agree to. The NFL/NFLPA can make a deal because the money is being exchanged between those two parties only. You would need a player's union and an agreement with the NCAA about the "salary cap" and then bam.... the players are being considered as getting paid for playing for the school instead of just name, image, likeness being paid by outside parties. They are considered employees and the whole tax exempt status for the NCAA is flushed down the toilet.

You think Jim Bob in rural Alabama with his 4 teeth cares about Walmart sponsoring athletes in Arkansas?
