A Georgia assistant coach is not with the program, at least for the time being. Dawgs247 has confirmed that special teams coach Scott Cochran is currently not on staff due to personal reasons. No official announcement has been made by UGA, but Dawgs247 has confirmed via independent sources. The Athletic was the first to report. The long-time Alabama strength and conditioning coordinator was hired by Kirby Smart Smart to lead the special teams prior to last season.

I'll never understand how he got an on field job in the first place?

Josh Pate saying that it has nothing to do with football but is a personal issue with Cochran. Rusty has echoed saying he will be away from football for a little while but could return before the end of the season.

As a strength and conditioning coach, not on field.

If Saban thought he was worth it, he’d still be at Alabama. Our S&C program is better now that he’s gone

Yeah, I think the style of play required a different kind of S&C approach with more sports science sophistication. One, mitigate injury risk due to rapid growth. Two, help keep athletes fresher and closer to peak performance over the long-haul of a 15-game season for national title contenders.

S&C needs changed and Scott Cochran wasn’t the man for the job in Tuscaloosa. I hoped he’d find success on the field in Athens because he’s a great motivator and that might translate into HC material one day.

Probably living off of his royalty checks from that Regions Bank commercial he did with Saban.

The only year he was on the field for Georgia was last year and did a pretty good job. Georgia’s special teams ranked 2nd in the SEC and 13th Nationally.

Kirby is cutting his losses. He took him away to hurt Alabama only to find out Alabama got better in that aspect

Most Bama fans couldn’t name a coach on their staff besides Saban. Hell, the closest most of them have been to the university is the 5th grade.

Scott was the best in his field from like 08-16. His field slowly changed and passed him by in the last few years and instead of evolving and changing his methodology, he chose to pursue a coaching pathway. If he’s going through something personal like a divorce or a sick child, my thoughts are with him and hope he gets it all sorted out and back on track soon. We all need grace sometimes.

While the jury is probably still out as he only coached 1 year, Georgia’s Special Teams ranked 2nd in the SEC and 13th Nationally last year.
