I think you'll see double A gap blitzes. Bringing a corner will be a quick completion. It would be a rollout and throwaway with Jalen in.

This is true. But for LSU, this is still a better option than sitting back in a zone and rushing only the front 4. That's suicide.

You might want to watch some game film of Tua and Bama's receivers there baw.
You guys have good DBs, but the best DBs in the world aren't going to be able to make plays when the quarterback has time to write a dissertation in the pocket. Especially one like Tua.

So is rushing 3 and dropping 8. I’d rather go down fighting and blitzing and praying our athleticism can force a mistake, then watch him sit in a pocket and pick apart 8 DB’s. It’s impossible to cover everyone forever.

Aranda is the best in the country at disguising pressure. After struggling to get pressure against Florida the past 2 games the LSU pash rush has been very good. Aranda is the king of sending 4 and getting home. The INT that almost went for 6 against State was a 4 man pressure versus 6 protecting that got home really quick.

You sir are correct, and you can bet this is the strategy LSU defensive gurus will adopt. Actually, it's the ONLY option.

I'd also say that the ILB don't need to be as aggressive against the run. Tua has eaten ILB up with the RPO. Shotgun fake hand off and hits the slot over the middle quick bc LB sell out on run fake.

I see LSU coming out in the Nickel package playing zone coverage to limit Tua's vision down field. Queen will start in White's place to stop the run and for his pass rush abilities but honestly I see JaCoby Stevens playing more (in place in White) in the first half than Queen because of his gifted natural ability to cover the Tight End in route and while Jacoby is in the game Aranda walks Delprit up for QB pressure allowing the CB to cover. Communication will be key. Pressure will be key. Its going to be a hard fought game.
BTW this is a solid thread is what has been a shite show this week. Good post!

This guy gets it. You simply can not let a quarterback like Tua just sit in the pocket all day. That's suicide.

No pressure = no chance for our D

I have a completely irrational desire to see Tua T have a John Reaves game against Auburn moment.
John Reaves threw 9 interecptions against Auburn for Florida in one game back in the day...
Like I said totally irrational.
However, LSU will need to win the turnover battle to win this game. And, this starts with Tua T.

I feel a combo of man/press on outside, DBs have to be physical to throw off timing and re routing Wrs is key and zone everywhere else. Blitzes have to be very exotic, cant show where your blitzing from unless its showing blitz and backing out at snap
What defense can LSU run that you don't think bama will eat alive?

quote:tua routinely beats good coverage, with great anticipation and ball placement. Great route running and qb accuracy/anticipation just beats great coverage more often than not. LSUs secondary has to come up with multiple picks, and probably multiple defensive scores to win this game, which means they are going to have to take lots of chances trying to guess so they can jump routes.
We have the talent to cover the Bama WRs

This is the matchup that wins the game in my opinion. The team that consistently wins the battle will position themselves for a win. Looking forward to the game. Will be there in person

I just cannot imagine an Alabama team that can’t run the ball well if they need to
Our interior OG play until two weeks ago was the weakness of the entire offense. We had Leatherwood who is really a tackle and Cotton who has flat underperformed.
Missouri actually stuffed us twice in goal line short yardage and I think it was the breaking point for the coaching staff.
Deonte Brown was brought in to replace Cotton and our interior run push has changed tremendously. I question Brown in pass pro, but am cautiously more optimistic with our running game.
It’s actually what I think will pivot the entire game. If Bama can run power and Aranda has to cheat a safety up or run blitz I don’t see how LSU can slow down the vertical passing game without a next level pass rush.
We’ve also been running pistol and I think it’s a good look for this week if we are now plus in the run game. Play fake dive, suck interior backers into crashing gaps and hit Irv Smith (TE) on crossers and slants in the 3-7 yard range.
Aranda sucks safeties up to take away the quick hit, go vertical with speed over the top where they don’t have help.

If you drop 8, he'll just hand off. Alabama has run quite a bit of RPO this season. If Alabama is getting to the second level on most of their runs with guys like Najee Harris, Damien Harries and Josh Jacobs then LSU won't be able to pass commit like that.
