Couldn't buy Saban, so they decide to buy Saban's staff.

Interested to see how that works out.

We've seen this song and dance before.

Didn't equal Saban for the others.

He's not that great of a recruiter. I'd give him a solid B. Fisher wouldn't even retain him off of Sumlin's staff, and he was at Bama. Anyone can recruit for Saban at Bama

Good for Texas - he's a good get for the talent-deficient BDF

Damn, I thought earlier reports (before the CFP) were that they had offered, but he had decided to stay.

The biggest concern to me was who replaced Flood because he's a good teacher. Stoutland was the last good OLC before Flood came over in 2019. Cristobal is a great recruiter and seems like a solid HC but I don't think his OLs ever lived up to their talent level. Hell, I think Alabama OL developed a rep for being underdeveloped and reliant on their athletic advantage amongst NFL scouts over the Cristobal + Key era Alabama OLs.

Have fun watching him place the kickoffs between the 4-8 yard line all year despite having a kicker than can put it in the end zone every time.

Good recruiter, but the ace is Nick Saban, and the other top two recruiters on the staff were not named Jeff Banks.

Hang a banner.

Do you know how many times this has happened at Alabama? At the end of the day, it's the script A on the jersey and Coach Nick Saban that makes these guys so valuable. Hiring a few coaches doesn't suddenly turn a dumpster fire like Texas into Alabama.

According to Bruce Feldman, Stoutland will be coming back as o-line coach to replace Flood.

Excellent special teams coach. Terrible TE coach - did nothing with that spot at A&M.

Overrated recruiter but he may be the best ST coach in the country.

Bama could have easily matched Texas offer and decided not to. Jimbo also passed.

Banks is on staffs because he's a great recruiter in the state of Texas. Special Teams/TE is usually a head coach's cubbyhole for a plus recruiter who is just average as an on-field assistant. He's probably a bit better at scheming on special teams than most but that is literally replacement level skill set.

What Alabama loss in Banks was a great recruiter but since when has Saban allowed his staffs to become liabilities in recruiting? I don't even think the loss in terms of Texas connections is going to be devastating because Alabama's Huff and Scott have been primaries on several big recruits out of Texas. Hell, Huff and Scott on 247sports are ranked higher than Banks.

Just like at Bama there were other coaches involved in landing Allen and Kirk. Banks was the area recruiter but wasn't the reason we landed those 2.

He also went 0-fer in California despite spending a ton of time out there.

Good coach though. No disputing that.
