Hindsight is always 2020. A program like OU should never go the coordinator route. That's their mistake. It wasn't a bad hire at the time but it ended up being a bad hire. They still blew the doors off of Bama.

All of OU's great coaches came in from coordinator positions. None of them were HCs.

Still stupid, still don’t like A&M and Missouri being in.

Most of us love this conference. I wouldn’t put much stock into message board posters. Hell I am already rooting for sec teams. Mostly because the B1G are getting big heads and need to be put back into their place.

Bothers me less than the overall bastardizing of college sports by NIL and the portal.

It has no soul.

I really don’t give much of a shite anymore.

I think they both have overall great athletic programs. I do think the Lincoln Riley situation left them reeling. I don’t get the BV hire . I think he is definitely not the right hire. I’m surprised that they didn’t go all in on fat Josh. I think OU would be the school he would leave Tennessee for.

We took BV because the fan base was sick and tired of having the best offense in the country with a weak defense. We wanted to get back to having a great defense. OU in the '70's was as much about the Selmon brothers as running the 'bone. From Boz to Teddy Lehman, we had hard nosed defenders.

And the weak defense days are definitely over.

I don’t think the SEC understands Texas either. We were Texas, we are Texas, and Texas we will always be.

We weren’t lost looking for a brand or a family, just a good conference. We got the other stuff, and it stays.

SEC pride is nice, Texas pride is tombstone material.

None of that from here. I and I think the vast majority of Texas fans are ecstatic to be here. And how could they not be? That was the best football and baseball season I can remember, not just because we did well but because of the competition. Playing LSU, Arkie, A&M, Miss St, Georgia, Fla in baseball compared to K-State, Baylor, TCU, TxTech? No comparison. I went to the LSU-WVU game this weekend in BR and that’s what a stadium is supposed to sound like (and that wasn’t even football!).

I have nothing but respect for the schools here and am happy Texas is a part. Iron sharpens iron and it’s awesome to be in a conference with the best and where every weekend is a big game.

And with that said, I hope we kick all y’all’s asses! :)

Texas was gifted some absurd easy schedules so it’s hard to tell. Year 2 those schedules turn around so that will be a much better indication.

I thought Oklahoma would struggle and they did. They remind me so much of auburn. They will have occasional success but I think the depth of the conference is really going to challenge them.

This is certainly a fair assessment as far as on the field...

Off the field... OU had gotten burned by the guy Bob Stoops anointed as the "Golden Boy" of college football.

That year it was basically Brent or Lanning that were available. OU took Brent because they knew him from the 13 years he had already been here and they trusted him because he was still "family"...

Heupel is estranged family... though it is no fault of his own. But as long as Bob Stoops is still around Norman. Heupel won't be coming back here.

If things go well in Knoxville for him... He has as good or better situation there than he would have in Norman. Although his family is still around here.

I get it and I remember that well. I always pulled for OU in their games against Nebraska growing up. I just think that Josh was the logical choice and I think OU chose wrong. Just my opinion

I completely agree with this statement. B10 fans are out here acting like they have the trophy case of some SEC schools. Ohio State does but that’s about it. This is the thing for me. Most mid teams in the B10 don’t have much if any NFL talent, so they aren’t springing conference upsets no where near as often. Most mid teams in the SEC have multiple NFL prospects. IMO it’s a lot easier to pull an upset when you have future NFL players on your roster. Even Miss St has their fair share of NFL players. The only team in the SEC that doesn’t really produce NFL players is Vandy. That’s a big reason they don’t upset very many teams. Also, when SEC teams play OOC games we get those teams best shot. For SEC teams its just another game usually. Let the B10 win 5 in a row with 4 different teams than I might start respecting them.
