I love it and any other articles like it. The opposite of rat poison.

The one year NC drought and more media declaring them dead and gone is nice motivation.

Yep, I want to see stuff like this on the national level though so it will really sink in to this program, coaches & players all need to see that they have been declared dead.

How hard would it be to put the Southern League standings in your paper with the Barons having a good team for a change.

People lament the loss of the daily newspaper (the actual physical copy), but when the ones that do exist don't perform simple old school newspaper functions like this........you are basically just admitting that the internet should take your place.

How can you not be focused in the National Championship game?

True. But honestly I think the Tuscaloosa News is a pretty good daily. There are a few C-stores that started carrying it after the Bham News went to 3 days.

Their Alabama coverage is (well, was) pretty good. They had consistently hired solid young reporters for a long time, and Cecil is Cecil. However, they just let go their 2 young sports reporters (one who was the Alabama beat writer), and I'm not sure what their plan is going forward.

From a distance, just as someone who scans local stuff about schools, the Advocate seemed to do a good job (with Dellenger and Rabalais). But they are tangled up with the T-P and NOLA.com now aren't they?

It's ironic.

People are bashing him for not praising Alabama. For not saying Alabama is still better. For not saying "It was just one game"... which is the point of the entire article: No more excuses

Yeah. Media Days was a borefest so they had to come up with something to talk about.

Never heard of the writer, he must be new to al.com.
He's getting slaughtered in the comments section though. Which is probably what he wanted.

I skimmed the article. It reads like a messageboard troll. The grammar and sentence structure was pretty horrible.
I'm guessing he was nervous/excited to get this one out, so he rushed it. Which leads me to believe he's new.
Gotta think old vets like Cecil Hurt and Aaron Suttles are getting a good chuckle at the expense of this guy, because he probably thinks he's doing something groundbreaking.
My guess it'll be largely met with ambivalence by Alabama fans.

I think most of us welcome more articles like this. If you truly wanted Alabama to be bad and Nick Saban to be mad you would hope for less of these articles, Willy.

That would be taking it to the next level.

Facts like this can lead to some internal divisiveness if they don't face up to it resulting in a disappointing season...have to give credit where credit is due.

Exactly.

I don't get the whole 'This is motivation for Alabama' narrative.

If Alabama needs Joseph Goodman writing a harsh article to motivate them... that ain't good.

I only look at the Advocate on line periodically except when in town for a game. Someone in South La would be better served commenting on the Advocate/Times-Picayune situation.
