Gotcha. I know S&P+ uses somewhat similar logic; FPI as well (within their own algorithms). Each, of course, with differing results.

The worst way to do it, imo, is the NCAA’s simpleton addition/division “algorithm” (opponent Win%).

Yeah win% is the worst.

S&P and FEI are both hosted at footballinsiders. They do a combined rating called Fplus.

Both are great quality. I prefer S&P for individual team rankings between the 2. FEI is more about efficiency in the different areas while S&P seems to have more of the total team feel to it. Just seems a tiny bit more accurate to me usually.

FPI I don't usually pay much attention to because you never know what is actual stats and what is human influence.

Clemson has a massive advantage no matter who they face. After the Aggy game they have a easy path and come November they can practically start getting ready.

Right, because Bama has the daunting task of going up against Tennessee, Ole Miss, MSU, Duke, Arkansas, Western Carolina, USC & New Mexico State lmao

Alabama has an 8 game schedule this year?

I like our chances then.

Clemson's regular season SoS last year was rated #100.

Look at Clemson's regular season SoS the previous three years... it was top 20 for a couple of years.

Last year was a weak schedule and this year may be as well. There are a couple teams like NC State, Miami, Boston College, Virginia and even FSU that may end up being better than expected. People put too much stock in the previous season vs general trends.

I expect Bama to be very good this year. If Clemson finds answers at DT, I expect them to be very good this year. There will be a couple of other very good teams out there including Ohio State and UGA and possibly a wildcard like Washington.

Personally, I love all of the negative press and media naysayers. Alabama has always been most dangerous, when it feels the most disrespected. I’m sure several quotes from this article alone will make their way into the Alabama locker room this season. Clemson is king right now, they’ve earned it. Mad respect to Dabo and those guys. But a pissed off Alabama and Nick Saban with a chip on the shoulder isn’t good news for anyone in the CFB world in 2019.

A high school team could have all the motivation in the world, with everything to prove... but if they line up against the New England Patriots, it won't matter.

(Clemson is New England)

I gave Clemson a free pass last year, but it was pretty bad.

Alabama's hasn't been up to par lately either, but hopefully this is the last year of that.

That’s a terrible analogy. A high school team doesn't have the talent to compete with a pro team. Alabama is every bit as talented as Clemson, arguably moreso. Give me two equally talented teams and I’ll take the pissed off team with a chip on their shoulder 10 out of 10 times.

Ah yes. The team that hasn’t beaten Bama in a decade, & who lost to Troy in Death Valley.

Bama has to face national title contenders every week :(

You would think AL.com would be Alabama homers... but after that mic drop, I have my doubts.
