Can we stop beating around the bush and ask the real question here? We just beat Kentucky (lolz Cat fans) and showed some serious swag in the process. I'm just back from the game and Coleman was rocking. So with this win, and wins at State and USCe (who won at Florida), coupled with our new found swag, are we the new flagship of SEC basketball?
NO! 1 win over a ranked team,at home means shite. While I'm thrilled to win,the bottom line is,the sec west is obviously DOWN this year, and we are playing better at the moment than the rest of the pack. Come back in a month or so if we have won over half our sec games

I'll say this... Alabama basketball fans frickING OWN LSU basketball fans. If that game was at the PMAC less than 7,000 would have been there.

The team is still a long way off. Could be a lot better next year if Green comes back and they are able to land Trevor Lacey.

Shoulda put in the ole :sarcasm: for the newb.
And elleshoe, thanks for the compliment, but we've always enjoyed supporting bball. Only a few years ago we'd pack it out on a regular basis. It's just been so hard lately

Grant is a solid coach. I wish we could trade coaches with you guys. I believe that basketball teams take three years to turn around and reach the tournament [in general], since you have three years to get your recruiting classes in and build depth to compete for a tourney berth. Don't judge Grant's hire til after next year unless things just fall apart horribly this year.

Grant is a very good coach.
Thanks for beating the kitties, but us with SC at the top of the SECe again.
KY has no big men. If you play perimeter defense, and dominate the paint, you should beat KY.
LMAO at Vargas- so happy he left Florida.

Those who ignore the past are destined to repeat it.
Remember the 2002 season when Mark Gottfried took a young team up to Lexington and knocked off UK behind Kennedy Winston's coming out party?
I like, scratch that I LOVE, what Grant has done so far, but this is just one win. A huge win, but still just one win. Still concerned we let a 20 point lead evaporate and are at times very sloppy with the ball on offense. It cost us the Arky game and very nearly cost us last night.

I'm optimistic about the basketball program for the first time since I was in college.
Grant is proving to be a very solid hire.
This. My entire time in college (under the popular Gottfried - well, popular with the "ladies" at least) was completely disappointing. I love basketball and love to follow basketball but it's hard to motivate yourself to go to games when 95% of the time we choked. Regardless - I am thrilled to see Grant doing so well! He definitely has a long way to go, considering how awful the program was when he started! But props to him for being able to at least have a "decent" team this early in a predominantly football university.

P.S. Lolz again at all the UK fans I saw who looked on the verge of suicide after going all that way for one bball game.
I dont know. I kinda give it up to them for that kinda dedication. For one a UK home game might be a tough ticket to score and it is all interstate on the drive down. Basketball is still for pussies who are afraid to get hit though.

Hell yes we're the new flagship.

The worst part about Alabama basketball are Bama basketball fans.
As much as we know about football, we are equally ignorant about basketball.
FTR, winning the games we are supposed to would not include a trip to Arkansas and probably not on the road in Starkville. This team is overachieving.
There is no road game in the SEC that in a our current state is a "should win". And if you don't think Auburn will play like the '97 Bulls Saturday you've got another thing coming.
Also, anytime Bama basketball talk comes up, it needs to be addressed at what the ultimate expectations are for the program.
In my opinion, I think we should be in the tournament every year and every 2-3 make a run at a SEC title and a high seed.
Basically, what Gottfried did for 3 years straight except with the talent we had on those teams he constantly underachieved, mainly because we didn't play defense and couldn't win on the road.
Both of which lead to an early grave when it comes tournament time.

Grant is a good coach IMO. That said, it is very humorous how some Bama fans are trying to say they have the #2 basketball program in the SEC. The way they are acting (not all) you'd think this was the first time they've beaten Kentucky.
