That'd be 1990 Louisville, in the 1991 Fiesta Bowl.

BTW, after that game we lost 1 game until LSU beat us in 1993.

We've actually beaten UK quite a bit in the past several years. Even went to Rupp and won one year.

I think most Bama fans had no clue at how well we were playing and after the early season losses didn't expect to win.

"Grant is a good coach IMO. That said, it is very humorous how some Bama fans are trying to say they have the #2 basketball program in the SEC. The way they are acting (not all) you'd think this was the first time they've beaten Kentucky."

AGAIN.....you failed to comprehend what you read in the other thread. Bama fans ARE NOT saying that Bama has the #2 SEC basketball program. They are saying that HISTORICALLY (you know...since 1936 when the league was formed) that a legitimate argument could be made that Alabama has the #2 all time SEC program. Everyone acknowledges that Arkansas would be very very high on this list if they had been in the league from its inception.

Historically includes every year including and up to last season. What counts are sweet 16, Elite 8, Final Four and NC appearances. To a lesser extent, conference championships.

How many Final Fours, Elite Eights, etc does bama have?

In addition, the gap between KY and the rest of the conference is so huge (I understand that you are excluding Arkansas) that all you are really saying is "Bama doesn't suck as bad as the other SEC teams."

I can't understand why some Bana fans are bashing the team after losing a big lead. Have you watched us at all this year? It's hard to hold a lead when only one guy can actually dribble the ball, we only have one fairly consistent shooter, and UK has 1,000 times the talent we have. Stop looking for negatives and be happy we got a huge win. Damn

This team may be overachieving and that is fine...but something is being overshadowed here and that is their fire, desire, and heart to win. This team is believing in themselves. They give the most effort night in and night out.

Defense in basketball is commonly overlooked, especially by the casual fan. We have arguably one of the best defensive squads in the NCAA right now. We may not score in bunches, but our defense is straight lockdown and if anyone knows anything about our football team, the defense is what won us the national title last year.

I'm not going to sit there and say that our defense is going to win any championships this season, but defensively, we are elite...that's why I disagree with everyone that says "we still have a long way to go". That statement is partially true THIS season, but in the bigger picture, next season we will have those pure shooters and scorers.

Grant has done an incredible job with this team. We are just around the for er of being something special.

^^ I agree, this team is strong on the D side. It'll help them win a few extra games. It'll only get better

It's a good win, I think you have a fine coach (I'd like to have him) and I like Bama's chances to win the West.

We would have lost that game last year. No doubt in my mind. We have had our struggles at times this year, but we are also showing major signs of improvement. Green and Mitchell have both really elevated their play this year. Now we just need to be able to win some road games.

Why do ONLY the levels of the NCAA tournament truly count? Why are conference championships considered a lesser measure? Alabama is right there with Tennessee and LSU in SEC regular season titles are a clear #2 in SEC tourney titles. They also have a winning record against every SEC team except UK and Arky (which has only been a member 18 years).

Alabama has a lot of Sweet 16s but only an elite 8. The 1976, maybe the school's greatest team ever, lost at the last second of a late round NCAA/NIT tournament game on a bad call to Indiana which was the last team to go an entire season undefeated. Alabama along with Tennessee and LSU in particular have suprisingly strong basketball histories that are often overlooked by outsiders because of those school's dominant football histories.

Don't confuse bashing with concern. I thought we played outstanding last night, save for about a 5 minute stretch in the 2nd half when we were very sloppy with the ball offensively. Even through that stretch we played great defense though, and great defense will win more games than it will lose.

So with this win, and wins at State and USCe (who won at Florida), coupled with our new found swag, are we the new flagship of SEC basketball?

Being the flagship of SEC Basketball is like being the C-USA football Champion. Come March it will result in a one and done, the league is weak.

Don't know what was so funny about what I wrote. I meant they have strong overall histories when compared to the rest of the SEC. For example, Florida has had an extremely strong 15 to 20 year run but prior to that they never really did anything of significance. Arkansas is clearly #2 on this list if they could be considered a long time SEC member. If you take their SWC history then yes, but can you really count another conference history in SEC history?

While the basketball team is very much improved... especially on the defensive side of the ball. And the win over kentucky was nice...

This team still lacks any real consistent scoring threat and any team that slows it down will kill us. Luckily we have athletes that can play inspired d in stretches, they will continually wear down. Plus our best talent green is lazy most of the time on d. Combine that with relefords youth..

NIT would not be horrible

The NIT would be great. Let's face it, the NCAA tourney is a long shot at best. We don't have any good non-conference wins, but we do have some bad losses (St Peter's, Iowa). There's not nearly enough opportunity in the SEC to boost our bad RPI at the moment. We'd have to have a miraculous SEC season (something like 14-2, very least 13-3) to get in position for the NCAAs.

It's gonna be funny to see when UA beats a good UK team, and turns around and loses to a shitty AU team this Saturday.
