Maybe not in actuality, but the SECs culture. Ham fisting these two schools in is going to destroy a lot of annual SEC rivalries that have been played for decades. The Tom petty bickering between LSU and Florida is what makes college football amazing. It’s so ridiculous and childish yet I totally love it. It’s fun to go back and forth about it and have these stories to tell for years all over a game.

People here bitch about playing Florida every year. We’ve played them every year for 50 years and most years for 70+ years. It’s a great rivalry. Both teams were Unranked and it was still an amazing game with vitriol. Florida and LSU has been incredible the past 20 years.

I love playing auburn every year, and Alabama. It’s a murderers row most years but it’s the familiarity that breeds contempt.

I know we will likely retain the ole miss game annually with the change. But I’m sure we will likely lose Alabama, auburn, and Florida as annual opponents. I know it may make our path actually easier to better seasons, but I don’t know if that’s worth if it it comes through an easier schedule with opponents we don’t enjoy playing as much.

Once Tejas and Oklahoma are added, Ole Miss and LSU will play more of the SWC/Big XII than the original SEC.

It's a damn shame.

It may actually save the SEC by forcing the league to remove non-conference games. As it is, some of our conference co-members may as well be strangers.

While it will be fun to play OU and Texas, I wish they weren't joining. I enjoy playing all of our annual rivalries.

College football as it was pre-Covid is already dead imo.

Hell, the playoff and initial conference expansion/realignment had already changed it dramatically, and for the worse imo.

Guess we’ll just have to see what the next evolution looks like.

I genuinely hope this happens. I hate that we have kids stay four years and still never play every other SEC team.

If playoff goes to 12 teams it’ll be fine.

I still think UT screwed up their own conference and they should not be allowed to join another. They should have to eat at the table they shite in.

How will playing a team every other year vs every year "destroy" rivalries? Why will it not create more?

I don’t like it either, but the silver lining is that the new SEC, and other new superconferences will soon have more power than the NCAA, itself, and the NCAA will get pushed into extinction.

I’m not talking about the tribute itself. I’m talking about how idiotic it is and how it makes Florida and LSU squabble.

I know it’s not possible but I wish like hell there was a way to remove Vandy.
No SEC matchup should begin with a 38.5 point spread.

I completely agree with your post. As I get older, it becomes apparent that the events are bigger than the games. I love the traditional SEC rivalries and hate to see them altered.

LSU - UF has a special place for me since I grew up in Gainesville and chose to go to LSU over UF to be in TGBFTL. It was a great decision.

It’s got to be two eights or four fours.

I would almost prefer a north and south division, then east west.

No, Divisions are going away. Going to a 3-6 Schedule model. LSU will actually begin to play TENN and UGA more often than they are playing now under the current format 6-1-1.

He didn’t mean the concept of rivalries. He meant the ones that currently exist.
