By now we all know that Rice and Sam Houston St. ran for 306 and 240 yards, respectively, against A&M. It's easy to say that Bama will easily run for more than that since their OL and RBs are clearly superior to Rice and SHSt. But one thing you might be overlooking is that the A&M front 7 will be playing much harder against Bama than they did those other two.

A great example of this: LSU @ Ole Miss 2003. Ole Miss had already been gashed 3 times that season, surrendering more than 30 points to TTU, SC, and Memphis. But, they were 6-0 in the SEC coming into the game behind Eli Manning and the home crowd was going wild. The D fed off that energy and held the eventual national champion LSU offense to 17 points, although LSU managed to win 17-14. I was at the game and remember our offense struggling all day and thinking that anyone who thinks a home crowd doesn't help a defense needs to see this game.

In short, I expect the A&M defense to fly around and play much better against the run this Saturday.

The other side of the coin is that Bama's OL looked very suspect in the VT game. But this completely ignores VT's role in that. They have good players too you know, and their veteran coaching staff had all offseason to study the Bama run blocking schemes. The Bama OL will be fine this year, trust me.

All that said, I look for Bama to have moderate success on the ground early, and then wear out the A&M defense in the 2nd half.

I agree that the A&M defense and the Bama OL will look better than before.

I also don't expect this game to be high scoring.

I agree with what you said about their defense aand our offense.

The transitive property just doesnt work most of the time.

Bama will score at will, better hope it isn't low scoring or it's gonna get ugly..

Good post.
I wonder how much off a drop off there is (if any) from TAMU defensive starters vs the subs?
If Bamas offense puts together long drives the TAMU d will need subs to help keep the starters fresh.

Yes.

However, if the backups sucked that bad, then it shouldn't give A&M fans warm and fuzzies having the starters back.

LMAO, that doesnt make any sense. Lets say I have a basketball team and My starter is Michael Jordan (in his prime) and my backup is an infant. Im pretty sure id get the warm fuzzies when MJ entered my lineup again.

Geno Smith was suspended vs. VT, he'll be back. Still, our 2nd team would've shut down Rice & SHSU.

Congrats on having a two deep of star players. A&M does not have that luxury and there is a large dropoff from our starters to our backups. It is not a good problem to have.

Are you saying you have starters that can be compared to MJ (in his prime)?

The starters are better than the backups, but the backups are horrendous.

I guarantee you if LSU or Alabama had 5 players suspended on D, they wouldn't be getting gashed like A&M.

No im refuting the logic that because backups are bad, that does not mean the starter is bad

None of your starters are Michael Jordan esque. Your starters won't play every down. Your lack of depth is no longer in question, it's exposed. Saturday you will understand.

Isn't Floyd Raven out? I would think this hurts more than the others being back helps since he is probably their best defender.

Depth will be an issue for aTm on defense Saturday. Bama needs to run it all day, control the clock, and wear them out.

Saying that would be an insult to our starters.

But using MJ to refute that is a bit of shine pumping don't you think? Maybe you should have used Manute Bol instead.
