A friend told me he only saw around 50,000 fans at the Auburn - Baylor game

He said upper deck in the endzone was mostly empty and lots of patches of empty seats in the lower bowl during the game. I'm kind of shocked since Auburn is not a long drive from Atlanta and there's a big alumni base in Atlanta.
Is this a sign that the popularity of college football is declining or Auburn fans just beat down to the point that there's less excitement for them?
My friend did say it was nice watching a game in the A/C than one with 100 degree temps in Auburn.

Neutral site games are a thing of the past. Fans travel enough and would rather have a home game.

Lot of empty stadiums early this season.
But the tickets are insanely expensive, the games are even less meaningful than they used to be, and it's 90°+ for most of them.

Going to games just keeps getting more and more expensive for the average fan. Unless you live in the area, fans are going to pick a game or two to attend, while enjoying the rest from the comfort of their own home.
For a family of 4 having to travel to a game - your looking at taking Friday off work/school, 2-3 nights in a hotel, multiple meals out, gas/travel expenses.
The average fan just keeps getting priced out of what makes college football great.

Baylor did not travel at all and everyone there was pretty much Auburn fans. Never seen a fanbase just no show a game like that.

Let Golesh notch a few W's and the fans will come out in droves to support. Auburn has a rabid fanbase, but they've been literally beat to a pulp by their football team for most of the last decade.
The administration of that program has been a pure shitshow for years and fans are really gun-shy right now. They want to see positive production, consistency and stability. Watch the crowds if AU brings an 8-4 season with a bowl win.

Sounds somewhat familiar.
Unfortunately, Golesh and Brown probably didn't excite the fanbase too much on Saturday. Maybe they do this week.

I live in central tx around a lot of Baylor fans. They have completely checked out on Aranda and are in full apathy mode. I don’t think it has anything to do with college football in general. Baylor fans just quit caring.

They announced the change to Atlanta only like a month ahead of time. Pretty last minute for something people already had plans booked for.

What is this shite? How was it setup like an Auburn home game? They had Baylor written on the field in one of the endzones.
