Once again, it is time to point out the SECr conundrum:
"Alabama fans are nothing but inbred, toothless hicks!"
Also:
"Alabama has too much money, power, and influence for the rest of us to compete!"
Auburn subset:
"Alabama has traditionally been where the monied interests', power brokers' and social elites' children went to school. Auburn was where the farmers' and common folks' children attended."
Quite the logical pretzel for the Rant to work through.

2005 - Alabama fans stab five Auburn fraternity kids on old row on Iron Bowl. When the case goes to trial, the Alabama fans conned/paid off a mentally slow friend to take the blame but the judge sniffed it out.
Thank you, sir. I have added this contribution to the OP.
It seems like this particular Alabama fan didn't stay out of trouble either:
quote:
MOBILE, AL (WALA) — FOX10 News uncovered new information about a man arrested after a brutal beatdown on Dauphin Island.
Joey Barrett Jr. is accused of attacking four people in a food truck line with a knife and brass knuckles.
According to court documents, he’s already served jail time for a similar crime.
In 2005 he pleaded guilty and served 18 months in jail for inciting a brawl at an Auburn University fraternity house by yelling Roll Tide.
Reports said the then 22-year-old stabbed three Auburn University students. Court documents said one of the victims suffered a punctured lung.
Court documents also said Barrett tried to bribe a man with mental disabilities to take the fall for the assault charges
According to jail records Barrett has been in Metro 10 times since 2002.
Barrett’s attorney, Jeff Deen, told FOX10 News about the case on Dauphin Island, “Don’t believe everything you hear. There’s three sides to every pancake.”

It's not really a conundrum. Alabama controlled Alabama for a long time and has a large mass of low dollar fans that are still lucrative. It doesn't make it an elite, monied institution like you're insinuating (although UA has plenty of money).
The reality is that UA is getting less absurd as it draws from overflow kids who want big time SEC/greek life and aren't from places who say "the universiteh", etc. Essentially trading "My dad owns a dealership" kid who was king of Decatur, AL and had a huge white trash streak for Buckhead girls who didn't get into UGA. Which, in some ways, is happening throughout the SEC.
As more people at AU and Alabama are from outside the state, the idea of Alabama being the home of multi-generation "power broker" kids gets more and more laughable. I mean, perhaps that's true in Alabama, but it's irrelevant for more and more of the high end kids these schools are drawing from elsewhere.
It's a natural transition to an era where your 5th gen Alabama legacy who is king of his hometown and 30 years ago would have been a BMOC has the same (or less) actual money/prestige as a regular kid coming to Alabama from Alpharetta, Ga or Franklin, TN.

I was about to say, how'd y'all forget about ol' girl trying to take on the entire OU cheering section at the Sugar Bowl a few years back?
She just had too much Bama in 'er.

I find it pretty funny that the bama inbreds love to yell the word "melt"/"melty" when they have proven to be the ones who violently melt over football games when they don't go their way.

2014 - Alabama fan attacks Oklahoma fan at Sugar Bowl
quote:
A female American football fan took the tackling into the stands on Thursday night when she attacked a male fan at the Sugar Bowl between Alabama and Oklahoma.
Michelle Pritchett, who supports Alabama, was caught on camera diving over other members of the crowd to get to Oklahoma fan Michael Connolly.
The victim of the attack later tweeted that Pritchett is a mother of three and that her children were in attendance at the Superdome in New Orleans.
The trouble started at the beginning of the third quarter with a war of words but quickly escalated into a brawl as Pritchett, who had been drinking, took exception to a comment from the Sooners supporter.

Listen, I always say that if you're old money in some dying southern town, it's nonetheless probably a good way to live. If my dad owns Nowhereville and you're upper crust at Nowhereville CC, etc. - I'm 100% returning there to live even if it's on a steep decline and nobody else thinks very much of it.
