Recruiting rankings are assigned by a bunch of folks pounding a keyboard. Most don’t have anymore insight than the average fan.

Auburn just got a commitment from a 3* OL that has offers from everyone under the sun. Bear McWhorter. Coaches have a much better eye to potential talent than subscription recruiting services.

Anytime I've ever seen a "recruiting expert" they look like they've never been in shape a day of their life, and are pretty much mega fans that have access to coaches.

NFL teams have an entire department of folks evaluating talent and they often get it wrong. College has a bunch of fans slash newspaper, radio folks working out of their house. A lot of 2 stars underrated, a lot of 5 stars overrated.

Drake Maye

Bama had him as a verbal for months before he flipped back to UNC.

Imagine Bama going Bryce Young to Drake Maye instead of Milroe…

Then they signed Sayin so really absent the flip and Saban retiring when he did it would’ve been Young -> Maye -> Sayin.

That’s pretty damn good from a QB eval standpoint.

Exactly. Recruiting services are folks trying to turn their fandom into a paycheck.

I'll never forget Tennessee whoring themselves out for Nico. They misread the market on him and gave him an asinine offer, and it blew up in their face.

Yep, the days where saban/'Bama could pay players and stock 5*s three deep is over.

Now everyone can pay players. That is why saban quit coaching... the field was leveled. He knew he was snake oil.

Anyways, now 5* talent requires mega bucks.. especially at Q-Back. . Most are not worth it. Better a couple 4* or a 4* and two 3*. See which one actually pans out as not "Bama Gold.

Alabama is still recruiting better than everyone else.

During the Saban years, a 5 star recruit was 3 times more likely to get drafted in the 1st round than if he went to other schools. Urban Meyer was the next best coach, but still about 50% of what Saban did.

That was from development.

Oklahoma is now struggling to bring in top10 recruiting classes.

You might want to find another excuse.

6'3½" and 293 lbs and played at Cass according to 247.

Yeah, I'd have to see a lot to not rate him at least a 3 star. Cass is good. They beat the dogshit out of Dalton this year.

Talent is easy to see but that is only half of being great. The mental part of the game and work ethic are a huge part that is hard to judge.

The Jackson Arnold story right there. All the tools on the world, he just never could master the type of processing skills it takes to lead an offense.
