These things always tend to have an Alabama/Auburn lean given they have the largest media presence in Hoover.

I would definitely agree with the Bama portion of that but to say Auburn gets a lean....let's review

Derrick Brown- 3 year starter and pre-season AA. Future 1st round draft pick and would have been this year had he chose

Prince Tega-OL- Graded highest Pass blocking OT in the league last year. Potential 1-2 rnd draft pick

Nick Coe- Led th team in sacks. Was a wrecking ball. Would have been an early to mid round draft pick last year ...this year could be a 1st rounder

Marlon Davidson- 4 year starter. Absolute beast of a DE. Will be a 1-2 round draft pick. Auburn front 4 is one of the best in the country. All 3 of these guys should be in the top tier.

Daniel Thomas-S - 3 year starter. One of leading tacklers past two seasons.

RB- Boobie Whitlow- FR All SEC last year. Had 780ish yds rushing and was banged up alot,

If anything....Auburn got knocked for not having Noah Iggy on the list. He is prjected to be one of the best Corners in the league this year.

Virtually all of Alabama's offensive (10 of 11) and defensive (9 of 11) starters are on the All-SEC Teams.

What kind of bitch do you have to be to be one of the 3 left off?

Yea... I mean I'd probably vote the Arkansas kid based on last year but if I was truly trying to pick forward I'd pick the A&M freshman (mainly because I'm not convinced Forristal will even be our main option).

A few thoughts...

*If you assign 3 points for each 1st Team Selection, 2 points for each 2nd Team selection, and 1 point for each 3rd Team selection, the teams rank this way:

1. Alabama- 42
2. Georgia- 19
3. LSU- 16
4. Auburn- 12
5. Florida- 10
6. Missouri- 9
7. Miss St- 8
8. Vanderbilt- 6
9. Arkansas- 3
9. Kentucky- 3
9. S. Carolina- 3
12. Texas A&M- 2
13. Ole Miss- 0
13. Tennessee- 0

TEXAS A&M
Seems to me, Texas A&M might be getting a little bit too much preseason hype. They have only one player on their team to make any 1st, 2nd, or 3rd team ALL SEC team.... yet somehow they rank in most Preseason Top 10 or 12 rankings. That doesn't add up.

FLORIDA
Florida also seems like they might be getting a little too much preseason hype. They are in most everyone's Preseason Top 7 or 8 yet the talent just doesn't seem to be there. They have just 4 kids make the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd ALL SEC teams...

MISSOURI
Contrast that with Mizzou who had 5 players selected to one of the three preseason teams, yet they make very few, if any preseason Top 25 rankings.

AUBURN
Auburn is another one that appears to have way more talent than their preseason rankings seem to suggest. They have 6 kids who made the list of 1st, 2nd, or 3rd ALL SEC teams, yet they are usually only ranked around #15 in most preseason polls.

TENNESSEE
Neyland is rolling in his grave. Not a single kid picked to any of the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd ALL SEC Teams. Unreal.

I know this isn't exactly scientific, and it does not capture things like overall depth, etc.... but it seems like the media might be jumping the gun just a bit on Texas A&M. It's like they see the fancy stadium and Jimbo on the sidelines, yet they are giving them the high ranking before the talent gets there to achieve it.

Yes, A&M had a great recruiting class last year, but how many of these freshmen will come in and play right away. A better indicator of depth would be how many 4/5 star kids were signed in the Recruiting Classes of 2016, 2017, and 2018.

4* and 5* Kids signed in 2016, 2017, and 2018:

56- Alabama
56- Georgia
46- LSU
39- Auburn
33- Florida
29- Texas A&M

If you add in the incoming freshmen, Alabama adds another 26 kids.... Georgia 20... Florida 17.... Texas A&M 16... and Auburn and LSU each 14.

I still don't think Texas A&M has the overall talent or depth to be a Top 10 team... especially while playing in the West and having to play Clemson this year. I would be shocked if the Aggies finish in the Top 25.

Any chance you have time/interest to do this relative to performance last year, or last few years?

Would be curious if there is any correlation between # of pre-season all conference selections and end of season results.

As always, fantastic breakdown and take

I don’t see A&M finishing better than t-3rd in the West. They are replacing too much.

Pretty interesting Jimbo played Clemson as close as he did.

To be fair to Texas A&M, this list is questionable at best.

To take that fairness away, they also don’t have anybody on any all-American lists except their punter, so yeah

How many selections did Bama have last year when this thing wasn’t in Hoover?

Are trying to imply that the media doesn't attend well unless it's local?

I’m not sure what you’re asking. Media, as a whole, attended in greater numbers in Atlanta. I’m guessing that fewer Bama homers attended and a more diverse media was present as a result of the greater number and location change. I’m guessing that could be reflected in the preseason teams once a larger sample size is gathered. It’s not a big deal - it’s a preseason team - but it’s my favorite part of Media Days being held in Hoover.

This is disappointing...I heard Kellen Mond proclaim he was the best QB in the SEC. How did he get left off the All SEC teams?

Not really. 2nd game of the year and Clemson wasn't even starting the guy who is the best QB in college football.

If you add the all-SEC specialists, Bama would be 48 (6 points for Waddle as 1st team all-sec return specialist and 1st tean all purpose player). & Georgia would be 22 (Blankenship as 1st team all sec PK.)
